KERATEX FROG DISINFECTANT

Cures fungal infections of the frog and heels

Keratex Frog Disinfectant contains tea tree oil (which is a very effective natural fungicide) in a penetrating solvent carrier.

Thrush mostly occurs in horses where the soles and frogs have been softened by a wet environment, or poor stabling conditions where the bedding is constantly damp from urine or dung. If the conditions cannot be changed then we strongly recommend Keratex Hoof Gel be used as a preventative once the infection has been treated and cured.

In its more advance stages thrush can be painful and cause lameness, so it is important to take proper action as soon as this condition is suspected - usually the first sign is an offensive smell emanating from the frog.

User Notes

If possible, remove the cause.

Clean the feet thoroughly. Check if the frog needs trimming by the farrier. Some frogs have a deep cleft, or sulcus, on either side, and possibly along the centre. These enclosed clefts are usually the source of any infection and can be difficult to get at. Insert the nozzle of the Keratex Frog Disinfectant container at the front of the sulcus and squeeze while drawing the nozzle towards the heel. It is essential that the nozzle is kept deep into the sulcus whilst injecting the fluid.

In severe cases treat at least once a day. Maintain treatment for 14 days after all symptoms have disappeared.

After the condition has been treated and cured use Keratex Hoof Gel as a preventative.

KERATEX NAIL HOLE DISINFECTANT

For prevention and maintenance in the treatment of White Line infections

This product was developed following requests from farriers and vets to find a disinfecting fluid capable of penetrating old nail holes, and able to permeate through surrounding tissue from the exit hole right through to the entry hole at the base of the hoof wall.

Keratex Nail Hole Disinfectant uses a state of the art penetrating fluid to carry special disinfecting agents into the horn and white line tissue surrounding nail holes or cavities behind the hoof wall.

Because most problems affecting the hoof capsule are initiated by either a breakdown in the structure (softening by the products of urine or water), or intrusions exposing deeper otherwise enclosed tissue (nail holes), it is essential to ensure that the whole hoof is protected against any bacteria and fungus which can grow in hoof tissue. Most of the micro-organisms causing infections of the white line are carried into the hoof in absorbed water.

Additionally, Keratex Nail Hole Disinfectant will strengthen the horn around old nail holes to prevent splitting in this vulnerable area.

User Note

In horses with a history of infections to the white line it is recommended to use Keratex Nail Hole Disinfectant as a year round preventative maintenance and apply to all hooves on a weekly basis. Because water is predominantly the carrier of the micro-organisms causing these infections we recommend Keratex Hoof Gel as a more generalised means of maintaining hoof health.

KERATEX FEED SUPPLEMENT FOR HOOVES

An advanced alternative to expensive supplements

During the last few years considerable research has been undertaken in both the U.K. and America to identify and determine the effects of dietary deficiencies which cause poor quality horn and soles. This type of deficiency can result in prematurely lost shoes, chronic bruising of the soles and more complex conditions occurring within the actual hoof structure.

Researchers, using definitive blood analysis techniques and high powered microscopy, have now identified the various vitamins, minerals and trace elements which are consistently lacking in horses with poor quality horn and soles. KERATEX HOOF MOISTURIZER

Stores moisture in hoof horn during dry periods.

It is well known that the hoof horn is at its most resilient when the bulk of the hoof wall is maintained throughout the year at an average water content of around 25%.

It is equally well known that hoof horn is damaged by rapid changes in the moisture content – as will happen when hooves, that have been saturated throughout Winter, start to dry at the approach to Summer. It is this drying that causes hooves to crack and lose shoes – just at the time when competitions are underway, or riders simply want to take advantage of the long warm days to enjoy leisurely rides. But, all too often it is a case of ‘No Foot. No Horse’.

BFor a long time it was thought that dry hooves should be soaked, or horses allowed to stand in a stream for an hour or so, just to get moisture back into the horn. But we now know that this rapid uptake of moisture, which causes the horn to swell, followed by sudden drying in high temperatures, causing the horn to shrink again, only exacerbates damage to the molecular structure of the hoof wall.

Because most domesticated horses live in environments that are quite different to the conditions for which they naturally evolved, the moisture content of the horn needs far more careful control and management, but there is now a simple solution.

Keratex Hoof Moisturiser not only moisturises and conditions the hoof horn the instant it is applied, but it goes on working in a way that is quite different to any other hoof moisturiser.

Once absorbed into the horn, Keratex Hoof Moisturiser will store any excess moisture for release as the hoof starts to dry out.

And it does not stop there.

Keratex Hoof Moisturiser will attract, and store, water molecules that are otherwise unavailable to hoof horn, taking them from within the hoof and even out of the air when temperatures are high and humidity low.
