The four weeks that I studied at Shur Shod was a great time of learning a new trade and also a great time of getting to know other folks from all over the country. I would highly recommend Shur Shod to anyone who, like me, needs one on one teaching to develop their skills. The hands on instruction made the class fun but informative. Max was a patient instructor and was always willing to take time to explain every detail. With the smaller class size it was easier to become good friends with each person in the class. The friends that I made at Shur Shod will be friendships that I will have the rest of my life.

I appreciate not only the quality of instruction I received but also the excellent facilities that were provided to me. I checked out many schools while making my choice and found that Shur Shod was the best school for my needs at the best price. The time that I spent at Shur Shod has prepared me for a profession that I will use for the rest of my life. I feel that I chose the most professional farrier school and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a career as a farrier.

Thanks again, Max, for sharing your experience and expertise with me. You have inspired me to work towards a journeyman status as a farrier.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

"In attending Shur Shod, I feel I've gained an edge that I would not have received from some of the larger more expensive schools. At Shur Shod the emphasis is on shoeing the whole horse, not just getting a shoe on a horse. With extensive training in both hot and cold shoeing and forge work, I feel I'm better equipped to handle situations that arise while out in the field, and therefore am more capable of providing a service that specifically fits the needs of my customers and their horses.

With the limited class size I was able to receive one-on-one hands-on instruction in areas of forge work, shoeing and horsemanship, that I needed to improve to make my farrier service more attractive to potential customers. Using the unlimited practice time gave me the advantage of sharpening my skills at the forge custom making shoes and shaping cold shoes. One of the biggest benefits of Shur Shod is the learning environment.

Max's teaching style, and the fact you can learn at your own pace without being pressured to turn out a horse quickly, makes for an excellent low-pressure learning environment. Unlike other schools I attended where you are expected to get shoes on a horse and get the horse out the door.

Attending Shur Shod was one of the best experiences I have had. Not only did I learn, but I had fun learning, met people, made friends, and have experiences that I'll remember for a lifetime. I would recommend anyone seeking to learn the trade, or any farriers seeking to sharpen their skills, to seriously consider attending Shur Shod."

The individualized attention I received along with the experienced knowledge of the instructor, paved the way for my success in this program. You could not ask for a better learning opportunity any where in the country. Max takes you step-by-step through all the aspects beginning with basic blacksmithing all the way to shoeing for every horse's needs. Due to all the one-on-one instruction I received, I returned home with the confidence and knowledge to be the top in my field."   — Kyle Foreman

"I can't recommend Shur Shod enough! I found the by searching the internet, and after a period of communication with Max Williams I realized that this school was going to be the one for me. The standard of training is excellent. The curriculum covered all aspects of shoeing and shoe making. It had the benefit individualized instruction and excellent study facilities. Combined with the clean and comfortable living conditions it made for a first class training experience. It was worth traveling halfway across the world to study at Shur Shod. My shoeing career was given a great foundation at Shur Shod. Now five years later I look back with gratitude to the time I spent at Shur Shod." — Andrew Bowman, Queensland Australia

Unable to do a farrier course in the UK we traveled many miles, across the Atlantic to complete a course at Shur Shod. As we were coming such a long way, our expectations were very high, but Shur Shod reached every expectation and more!

There was a welcoming, friendly atmosphere from the moment we arrived. Both Max and Kelly went out of their way to help us in anyway they could. The facilities provided were excellent. Individual rooms allowed privacy, whilst the communal lounge and kitchen allowed for friendly banter in evenings with fellow students!

The course Shur Shod offers allows students to work at their own pace . This approach enabled us to gain confidence in our practical skills . Through this process we were able to gain a thorough understanding of foot anatomy, and how to effectively trim and fit a shoe to a hoof, not fit a hoof to a shoe! .

We are very grateful to Max and Kelly for making the course what it was . It was the most enjoyable, educational experience of our lives! We would recommend the course to anyone traveling those extra few miles was most definitely worthwhile. – Vicky Norris and Menai Edwards, Veterinary Students, Cambridge University, England

I thought the course content and the one on one hands on training was right on the spot, for myself the out and out practicality of the course was brilliant as I find it is much easier to learn by actually getting on with the job rather than sitting in a classroom environment and with only six students in the class help was never far away.
I thank both Max and Kelly for the Shur Shod experience and for preparing me to go out and be a successful farrier. – Stephen Jones, Campbeltown Scotland

The level of education exceeded my expectations, the instructors were extraordinary and when we were feeling frustrated they were right there to help and lend guidance, I cannot thank Max and Kelly enough for the instruction they provided for myself and my son Kris. I wish you all the best your school does go above and beyond what is expected, I left Shur Shod feeling confident in my shoeing skills and knowledge.
– Stephanie & Kris Kokal, Francestown, N.H

I can't believe how lucky I am to have picked this school out of all the ones out there, for the money and time spent I feel I have learned years of experience in a months time, I would highly recommend Shur Shod to anyone wanting to become a farrier.
