The Horse Owner's Practical Horse Training Course is a must for the beginning professional and the serious horse owner. You will learn effective, safe ground breaking using proven, gentle, time-tested methods anyone can learn. This program is designed to build a solid foundation for your horse's future and your own. If you are already training horses, you can incorporate these methods into any program you may now be using. If you are shoeing horses, this course will help you maintain a long, safe, happy career. This course is hands-on training. You will have pointed demonstrations, after which you will perform each task demonstrated under the close supervision of your instructors. You will absolutely learn to take a completely unbroken/unhandled horse through all steps necessary to produce a gentle, tractable and willing equine partner, capable of moving on to any training discipline.
Required Supplies: None. The school will provide horses for the program. If students enrolled in the Horse Owner's Practical Horse Training Course wish to bring their own horse they are welcome to do so at no extra charge for the length of their horse training class. Please notify office staff upon enrollment.
Other Items Students Might Want To Purchase While At School:
Most 8 thru 15 week students plan on spending about $1,250.00 total for tools which would include tools which they might want but are not required. ALL PRICES SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE Personal costs are estimated. We suggest the students bring a minimum of $100.00 per week to cover food and pocket money.
We encourage you and your family to visit the campus. Oklahoma Horseshoeing School is 30 miles south of Oklahoma City on Interstate 35. This location is 12 miles south of Norman, Oklahoma and 4 miles North of Purcell, Oklahoma. From Interstate 35, take Exit 98 (Johnson Road ) then go exactly one mile north on the east side of Interstate 35. The campus includes a clinic, classroom, modern shop with large indoor shoeing area, indoor training pens, exercise track, large round pens, hot walker and stalls. The shop is open all evening and weekends so that you may practice your forgework. Separate Men's and Women's dormitories, located on campus, are provided free of charge. The dormitories include kitchen facilities and pay telephones. While living in the dormitory, students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner such that their neighbors welcome their presence. While living in the dormitories , students are expected to participate in cleanup daily. Students are required to bring their own sheets, blankets, pillow, towels, wash cloths, kitchenware, and personal effects. At times, families join students for a visit. There are several motels, restaurants, and a campground within driving distance of the campus. They are priced within the inexpensive to moderate range.
