: Have 2 yr old that has about 1" toe crack in front hoof. This horse is not being shod yet and farrier doesn't know if anything will work to take pressure off till it grows out. Will any of the equi-thane products work? He is being trimmed every 4-6 wks.
Hi Bonnie, Thanks for the question. Not knowing what is causing this, nutrition, wet to hard ground etc, I will make some educated guesses. Our Equi-Thane repair material will help stabilize the crack but I think that using Equi-Build to help share the load with the wall will take enough pressure off the wall to let the crack grow out, providing toe length is under control-which it sounds like it is being trimmed routinely. Equi-Build can be applied w/o shoes but the feet need to be kept DRY or the sole will let go over time and come out. I've seen it stay in 6 weeks w/ no shoes. Application is different from our normal instructions so have your farrier call us if you decide to do it. Hope this helps.
