Hi Sarah, Thanks for your continued interest. This material, loaded to ground level should not affect your horse's traction this winter, unless of course it's on ice and then anything is a problem. I know of lots of Hunter/Jumpers who compete w/ this material in and Eventers as well w/ no problems w/ traction so I can't see a problem with hard ground. Snow should be no problem but again, ice, I don't know. NO, snowballs will not form. This material goes in as a liquid, so it will fill every nook and crevice. You can call the home office between 8am-5pm pacific or call me on my cell at 816-305-6984 usually between 7am-7pm most days. I'm on Central time but am usually on the road al the time so you'll just have to give it a shot. If you can't get my cell, I'm probably out of coverage, call Office and leave message, I'l get that pretty quick. Thanks again Sarah,
Frank
