: : Hello, my horse has white line disease. The farrier gave me some stuff to traet it but it is getting worse. Now I do not know what the farrie gave me since I am at home and it is out at the barn. I think that the farrier is going to have to dig more of his hoof out. What other products can I use to get rid of this? And where can I find them or how can I make my own? If anyone knows PLEASE email me. Thank you, Abby

: Hi Abby, There are several products on the market dealing with white line disease. I would suggest talking with your farrier to see which one they are using. The stall conditions are also very important to ridding the horse of this problem. They should be clean and dry. If this seems to be getting worse, I would suggest calling your vet in on this also. Hope this helps. Frank

Hi Abby,

One of the things that I really liked when I first reviewed the
Equi-Thane materials was that they don't try to get people to
cover up problems. You'll find that there are quite a few products
being marketed for cosmetic repairs and fillers and such that will
actually advise you to cover up white line problems. But, if you
read through the materials on their site (and Frank's response to
your question), you'll find that they specifically tell you to get
it healed before you cover it up, and that's especially important
with white line issues. I'll drop a link in to a section of my
site where you can learn more about wld; then, you'll want to follow
up with your vet and farrier working together. Also, you might want
to check out some of the recent postings on the Farriers Helping
HorseOwners boards; Dr. Myers recently posted an interesting note
concerning using chlorahexadrine (or however that's spelled other
than as "Nolvasan") to treat wld.

~~Dan
