Hi Susan, Thanks for your question. Under normal situations, Equi-Build fills in the whole area of the sole and frog. However, I have seen products like Sole Pack used to block out certain areas if the farrier wants to isolate an area for growth of if they have a very sore spot they want to put a softer material against. It's not the norm but not unusual either. Ask your farrier why they did it the next time. It might also be an application technique.
