Hi Wendy, Thanks for your interest in our products. In answer to your questions: First of all, with the Equi-Pak material, use only the 180cc cartridges as this is the most economical way to use it.
How many hooves you get out of a cartridge depends upon the type of horses you have. On the "average" horse, you will get 3-4 hooves per cartridge. I know, there are no average horse feet but that has been the rule of thumb. Alot depends on the cup of the sole and how much you fill in. Are you filling for protection or for support? It all depends on how you'll use the material.
On a size 1-2 shoe, probably 3-4 hooves.
If you are using this material without a pad, you should always give the frog and sole a good scrubbing with denatured alcohol and dry with a hair dryer or heat gun. Then shoot the material onto the sole and frog. In 25-30 seconds the foot can be set down, but before you do, rub some dirt or shavings on it as the Equi-Pak will be tacky.
In answer to your second question about using Equi-Pak without shoes, yes it can be done although I wouldn't suggest it in a very athletic situation. I do know of some cases where it was put on horses without shoes and these horses are now giving rides to children at summer camps, but again, these are not very strenuous situations.
We just don't have enough feedback yet on going shoeless. So far it seems to be holding in most situations.
Again, thank you for your interest in Equi-Pak and please call us if you have any questions. 800-483-8832.
Best Regards,
Frank
