: My horse is used for Colorado mountain trail rides, arena work, in water, in large pasture area, etc. Is one of your products adaptable to this use? I understand some of the adhesive shoes do not stay on or hold up well to this type of use. Thank you for any information you may be able to share.
Hi Karen, We have several products that can be used in your conditions in Colorado. Our Urethane repair material, Equi-Thane can be used for hoofwall repair as well as to glue on shoes. One advantage to Equi-Thane is that it has two cure times- one at 2-3 minutes where it becomes impervious to moisture and the final at 12-15 minutes.
Urethanes also flex more with the hoofwall than acrylics so they are less likely to come out.
Hoof prep is everything though!!
Have your farrier call me at 816-305-6984 to discuss techniques.
Another valuable product for your rocky trail rides is our Equi-Pak. This is a liquid urethane packing material that sets in 25 seconds and doesn't need a pad. It's also available in a trail kit for you to take along w/you.
All of our products are urethane which means they are NON-TOXIC for you and the horse.
Take note: gluing on shoes is still really in the testing stages. If your horse has good solid hoofwall to nail into, it would be best to have the shoes nailed on.
