: How do I determine what size shoe to use? What guidelines should I be using?
The sizing is similar to regular keg shoes.
If the horse is now in a diamond size "0" or a St croix "0" for example, he will probably go in an "0" aluminum natural balance.
The steel natural balance tend to run a teeny bit smaller than the aluminim, but are very workable in the forge so the toe can be broadened or narrowed a bit easily, and the branches straightened or turned as well, to accomodate 'in between' size feet.
Also remember if the horse was in a standard keg shoe but the toe had become real elongated wit the breakover way out in fornt of the frog, the firse shoeing in a Natural Balance Shoe the shoe will be set farther back behind the wall at the toe so the NBS you choose may be smaller than the size keg shoe you had previously. because it will be shorter front to back.
