Hi Patti:

We have a new farrier that has shod 2 of our 8 Dutch WB horses and is returning in a few days to shoe this particular 11yr old 1550lb 17h gelding who has underrun heels.

This gelding grows heel very well but it never seems to come down straight. This new farrier seems to think that floating the heels will help the heels to grow down straight.

We are very nervous because this is a new farrier to our area and he has no work history locally beyond the last 3 months. Everyone says he does nice work and our horses he did thus far are fine. But, nobody knows what this floating involves and we don't have any idea what he is talking about.

He does the work in our stable while we are gone. But, when he comes for this floating I plan on being present to monitor the job.

Please explain what is involved so I can have some level of understanding about what I will be seeing and how to know it is being done properly.

Thank you Patti.

Sincerely,

Monica Carter
