There is a much better product than what you are using, it is called, Mare's Milk. I can not remember the manufactors name but the stuff is wonderful. It lasts for 24 hours and has a slightly bitter taste so the foal does not drink too much. Are you giving enough hay and water? Is there another horse that will get along with her? I had a similar thing happen to me and all worked out in the end.
Where are you located? I have a mare that is a great foster mom....

: We have a 2 month old foal that her mother just died. We were feeding her foal lac and oats, very small amounts and she started swelling just above the hooves. We called the vet, he said founder. He said to stare her. How can you stave a baby that is struggling already? She does have some marks on the swollen areas like she has hurt herself. Any suggestions on nutrician for a foal in this situation to avoid hoof problems. She does not have access to green grass but she is getting hay.
