: I would like to know if my farrier is putting these shoes on correctly. Can you provide a picture of how they should look on the foot, as seen from the bottom. Are they supposed to be set one half inch back from the point of the toe when the heels are set at the widest part of the frog? Or, should the shoe be a larger size? I'm afraid my horse will come up lame when exercised, due to the shoes being so far back from the toe. Please respond ASAP. Thanks, Pat.

Dear Pat,

On the WRP front shoes: The heel of the shoe is best placed to the widest part of the frog. The foot can be trimmed to facilitate this position, centering the shoe to medial and lateral positions on the foot. This is necessary and is good farrier practice.

The distance from the tip of the frog to the point of breakover ranges from 1" on the size 4 , to 1 1/2" on the size 7. The dimensions below are approximate only:
Size # 4 = 1" to 1 1/8"
Size # 5 = 1 1/8" to 1 1/4"
Size # 6 = 1 1/4" to 1 3/8"
Size # 7 = 1 3/8" to 1 1/2"
The point of breakover is from the toe grab, not the outside of the shoe.

Nip the toe of the hoof at the same angle as the front of the WRP.

The WRP hind pattern is shaped and fit normally, no special instructions are required.

The Silver Queen requires normal fitting making sure that the heels are covered and sizing is correct. After nailing, the farrier can just roll or bevel the toe slightly with a rasp or file to match the shoe. Taking off too much toe with nippers or a rasp can weaken the integrity of the hoof and your farrier (I am sure)understands this.
Sorry I do not have photos readily available , but if you want to email the inventor of the WRP it is : Gene Ovincek and address: edss@ris.net
