The Farrier & Hoofcare Resource Center is a computer online, interactive information, communication and transactional Web Site. It is available to anyone, through a personal computer or other access device and a communications connection (such as a modem and telephone line).
It is strongly recommended that you read the Online Conduct page, to familiarize yourself with the parameters of conduct expected from people using this site.
The Farrier & Hoofcare resource Center is a farrier and hoof care oriented site, used by many different people located all over the world. Our goal is to provide an interesting, stimulating and enjoyable site for all visitors. Using vulgar, abusive or hateful language on the bulletin boards undermines this goal, and is not allowed. Please use your best judgement, and be respectful of others. Always remember there are children online.
If you're adventurous, and want to strike out on your own, jump right back to the home page. But if you're looking for a little guidance, take a few minutes and read the short descriptions of what's available. It's a big site, and it's growing larger with every passing day. (Heck, sometimes even we get lost in this place, just trying to maintain it!)
(Selecting the icon associated with each description will take you directly to that section of the Site.)
is the main marketplace section of this site. Here you'll find a quickly growing
number of manufacturers and suppliers of the finest quality farrier and hoof
care supplies. Browse through their advertisements, find their local
distributors, or order the products direct, using the Online
Shopping feature. This is a heck of a lot easier than leafing through old
catalogues (if you can find them), and wondering if the prices have changed.
New & Improved Products is where we feature the "latest
and greatest" offerings from the manufacturers. Although everything in this
section is also in the previous section, we want to highlight these items to
make sure you can carefully review the newest items to be introduced.
Products & Services Bulletin Boards is where some of the
advertisers in The Farrier & Hoofcare Resource Center have set up bulletin
boards devoted to their products and services. If you have specific questions or
comments about products, this is the place to go. Representatives of the
companies monitor these bulletin boards every day, and respond to your questions
and concerns.
Product Promotions is the page where we list the companies
currently running promotions for their products. Sometimes there's free product,
other times you additional receive goods or services when you purchase products.
What ever it is, take advantage of it while they're still offering it!
Farrier Schools is the section that features farrier
educational institutions. The very fact that these schools have chosen to
publicize themselves in The Farrier & Hoofcare Resource Center is a good
sign that they're at the leading edge of the farrier educational process. If
you're looking for a good farriery education, look no further.
Farriers
Helping Farriers Bulletin Boards is a section done in bulletin board
style. Each bulletin board is devoted to one subject (or "thread" in
cyberspeak). Here you can read postings from farriers located all over the
world, who are discussing the pros and cons of treating problems in various
ways. Do you have a question or need clarification? Post a question. Perhaps you
have an answer, or an opinion based on your experience. Jump right in and post
it. Don't be shy, join the discussions.
Farriers Helping Horse Owners Bulletin Boards is similar to
the Farriers Helping Farriers section, but instead is devoted to discussions
between horse owners and farriers. To many non-farriers, what farriers do for a
living is quite "mysterious". And we all agree that lack of knowledge
is usually the basis for most misunderstanding. In this section horse owners can
ask the questions they've always wanted to ask, get second opinions (and third
and fourth...), and instead of relying on "stable rumors" for answers,
they can ask you, a professional, for your opinion.
Farriery Articles is where farriers (and some non-farriers)
from all over have posted articles about topics as diverse as white line disease
to the dangers of toxic chemicals. There are also articles by non-farriers on
topics of interest to everyone, such as better business management, and
investing your hard earned profits.
Farrier Humor is one crazy section. In here you'll find
hilarious stories and jokes, both fictitious and real. Actually, some of the
real stuff is stranger than the fiction. To paraphrase Art Linkletter, "Farriers
do the oddest things...."
Dictionary is a section we're particularly proud of, as it's
the most complete and comprehensive listing of farrier terms and definitions
available anywhere on the Web. We are indebted to Dave Millwater Publishing,
which permitted us to post this abridged edition of the New Dictionary of
Farrier Terms and Technical Language. Whether you're reading for pleasure or
doing serious research, if you need to know the meaning of a farrier related
term, this is the place to find it.
Farrier Finder is the equivalent of a national Yellow Pages
for horse owners seeking a farrier. This is the largest online list of farriers
in the world, and is constantly growing. If you need a farrier and can't find
one this week, please check back again in a few weeks.
Publications & Article Archives is where farrier and
hoofcare related articles from a diverse selection of publications can be read
and downloaded. If you like to read "general interest farrier stuff",
you'll enjoy this section.
Educational & Reference Resources is where to turn if
you're looking for materials concerning farrier education, ongoing research
projects, and reference sources such as the complete text of Henry Heymering's
landmark book, "On The Horse's Hoof".
Speakers & Clinicians Directory is where to look if you
are holding a farrier or equine related event, and you'd like to have someone
around who really knows what they're talking about. The people listed are all
very knowledgeble, and your event would benefit from the presence of any one (or
two) of them.
Calendar of Upcoming Events is where you should look to see
what's happening in the world of farriery. Competitions, clinics, association
meetings, and conventions. The list is updated several times a month, so check
it out often.
Farrier Associations is the section where national,
international, and local farriers associations are listed. If you're looking for
an association to join, look here. Additional associations are listing
themselves quite often, so if you don't find what you're looking for, try again
in a few weeks.
Books & Videos is where we share with you our reviewers
opinions of the content, quality, and applications of various equine related
books and videos. With all the books and videos available, this section could
help you narrow your search for that special book or video you've been looking
for.
Insurance for Farriers seems like a contradiction in terms.
The sparsity of companies listed here is a reflection of the high degree of risk
taken by farriers. We're working on expanding the list.
Classified Ads is exactly what it says, a section where
farriers can sell anything they want directly to other farriers. Commercial-type
sales or advertisements are not allowed in this section. Purely farrier's
equipment, shoeing practices, or personal effects such as rigs or trailers.
There's also a "Wanted" area in this section, with postings listing
items farriers are seeking.
Positions Wanted/Available is where you want to look if you're
seeking a job in the farrier industry. Farriers looking for a partner or an
apprentice will have a posting here. If you'd like to apprentice with a more
experienced farrier, you should post it in this section.
Discount Travel is where you go for discount travel
arrangements when you're traveling to those clinics, competitions, conventions,
or even a vacation! (Do farriers take vacations?)
Financial Services is where to turn if you want help
collecting bounced checks, bad or long overdue accounts receivable, or perhaps
more importantly, you've finally decided to plan out a fiscal strategy to insure
financial security in regards to your children's education or your retirement.
Whether it's debt collection, financial planning, or help running your business
more efficiently, the services are right here.
Farrier & Horse Owner Registration are the sections where
visitors to The Farrier & Hoofcare Resource Center tell us about themselves
so we can continue to improve this Web site and bring you more of the things
that interest you. Please register. We value your input.
is the gateway to the home page of our "sister" site, ANVIL Magazine.
If you enjoy farrier and blacksmith related editorial content, you'll love ANVIL
Magazine.
Other Equine Sites is a listing of a few other quality equine
Web sites. Be forewarned, The Farrier & Hoofcare Resource Center is the
largest, most comprehensive site on the Web for farriers and hoof related
subjects. (Actually, it's the largest equine site on the whole Web, regardless
of topic!) So if you're looking for other comparable sites, well, they just
don't exist....
Contacting us directly to submit articles, ideas, comments, lavish
praise, etc... is the section where you can directly contact us to
offer suggestions, submit articles, stories, classified ads, jokes, or anything
else that crosses your mind. If you want to receive info concerning advertising
in The Farrier & Hoofcare Resource Center, this is the section for you. We
look forward to hearing from you. Really.
