If you have questions for Dr. Sammy then ask him. You seem to be directing your posts towards Rick and not Dr. Sam.

Dr. Sam has posted that there is a difference between upright hooves with bone angles of less than 70 degrees and greater than 70 degrees. Personally, I think there should be more substantiation than because Dr. Redden says so.

I don't see how any of this has to do with hoof expansion, but if there is a publication to support this idea I would like to hear it.

He answered the question. Sorry to bother you, if you don't want to answer then don't read. Have a good night, hope you have a better day tomorrow.

I can see how this a lot to do with heel movement/expansion. How about the lack of it? Morgans come to mind.

Phil, I'm having a great day. You asked questions of Rick and Tom and Travis....If you want to argue go ahead, but don't play the innocent.

This certainly does not have anything to do with Heel movement. Please stay on track.

If you have any comments on the study, fire away. I highly doubt you have even looked at the paper.

I assume your talking about the information you posted in the start of the thread. Ok, in my opinion heel movement is over analysed and given way too much importance. Imperical data has shown me depth or the lack of it and medial/lateral balance is much more important in soundness. Horses with low heels and very little sole depth expose the coffin bone wings and sole corrium to trauma. Trimming and shoeing to obtain depth and protect the bottom of the coffin bone has worked well for me and in most cases this can be achieved with getting the hoof into the proper shape and good shoeing. Simple principle, however difficult to achieve the skills.

Isn't that the basis of shoeing a horse in the first place??

Protection from wear, then traction....:D Unfortunely we have all seen bad shoeing still help a horse?? Not promoting that kind of work but facts is facts...

Whatever floats your boat I quess. Most of my clients like the cost of nailed on over glueing on, but I can slap on a pair of Sigafoos if needed.

The point of this thread is that there is a difference- for good or bad.
