Comes from lack of understanding the way the anatomy effects function. I'll admit I bought the horse for his looks and now understand he isn't conformationally sound.

Education is priceless. Don't assume I overlooked the other and just wanted "pretty ears"

He's going to get cut now. Unless there are health reasons not too, I'm not worried about the "stud" attitude. He isn't that bad, I just need to put more time into him. Suppose he'll make a pretty Gelding.

I took some horses to a big QH sale once where a fellow from NM showed up with five nice rope horse geldings. He had the two high selling horses of the sale and the other three were near the top. Someone asked him "Where do you get all them good geldings?" He replied "I cut them good stallions".

I may be getting a warped prospective lately, don't have many QH's in my practice and seldom take a new horse that isn't a therapeutic case, but every QH/paint that I have taken in the past few years has had bad legs.

BTW, glad you didn't mind a blunt answer about your horse. I thought you wanted an honest answer.

The best things about the good old days -- I wasn't good and I wasn't old.

The older I get, the more horses I shoe, the fewer things that I can absolutely, positively fix.

I wasn't offended, it's a valid question. The "bloody" area was a smashed horse fly. lol The actual insertion was forward of that just a tad.

I'm curious why you went IM. I suspect you've had enough EMT type training that IV wouldn't be a problem.

Vet was not comfortable with me doing I.V. Had a client kill his horse that way. One lil 'ole air bubble and that was it.

After further investigation I found this.

In case it's not apparent, it's a sizable swelling right there.
Good thing it's your horse and not a new client who would love to tell all their friends.

Yep, He's doing fine with some benedryl. Had it been a clients horse though I'd be paying for corticoids, or worse the animal.

I referred one to the Vet for sedation and a Trim today. Charged for the training session that was supposed to be a trim and advised for this first time (Mare with foal to protect) to sedate for a proper trim. I then gave my fee schedule for training. :)

A little air bubble wouldnt kill a horse your client probably hit the artery.

22 years. NO I didn't separate momma and baby as suggested by others in another thread. I'm a little more perturbed that people thought that than I should be, but still stand by my decision to suggest sedation.

There was no stall, just open field, and a baby who was old enough to explore and alarm Mom who obviously had not be handled enough.

Goodness I need to get over this sinus/cold **** or just chill out.

One lil old air bubble didn't kill the horse and if he told you that then he is full of it. Like someone said above, the client probably injected whatever they had into the carotid artery the horse likely seizured. The drug itself probably was not the cause of your problem. I have used the same drug to sedate a few thousand horses never have had any problems, all have been IV. How many cc's did he give you for this horse? What sized needle?

I gave 2 cc with 18 ga and then another 1.5 cc now that I think about it. Have what appears to be 4 cc or so left in the bottle.

I looked up on drugs.com as suggested and this makes sense.

"Following repeated intramuscular injection at the same site, a swelling may occur and such swelling may persist for several weeks."

I did stick him twice in the same site. So it's not an allergic reaction most likely. Suppose it's just going away on it's own then.

Ok looking at this some more.... Would you say he is Bench Kneed? His Cannon bone is turned outward. The twist though almost seems to start above the knee.

Sigh.... Wish I'd paid more attention to the horse, he'd been a gelding at 3 yrs old.

You must have the record for the most amount of post in a month and you still have a few days to go. Think you'll hit 200? By this time next year you should have over 2000 post. LOL!
