Are those jar calks or regular heel calks? And WHY?

Amish special, toed and heeled st croix, #6 regulars, but was actually a respectable job for most of the Amish around here. I'll get the pics up in a little while, dinners ready.

Interesting, when ya get through stuffin your face, mark those up to show what you see. I don't read many rads, Not enough Tenure, but is that medial displacement?

Dorsal surface of DIPJ, extensor process and hard to miss sidebones. Look closely and tell me what you see Chad. A case of bad trimming, both feet were outside high. Didn't show signs of medial displacement.

I see the obvious sidebone, right below the lat. cartilage on the medial side, is that knew bone growth? I wish I could draw lines on the computer, but I'm not that cool:o. I am assuming this horse has pretty severe sheared heels?

No sheared heels, sidebones on lateral and medial side. I don't like that A/P rad wish he would have taken another, it's not to clear. You can see what the lateral sidebone is doing to the foot in the lateral foot pic.

Distal/Dorsal surface of P-2, Extensor process.

So with a remodeled P3, Justin, what sort of issues do you expect to encounter while attempting to level the hoof medio-lateraly? The joint spacia doesn't appear to be off.

It's amazing how you barefooters will jump on a poor x-ray and start assuming things that may not be there. The imbalance was evident in the trim on both feet. Is there more problems associated with the imbalance, maybe, but without a better x-ray I would not make any determinations or changes to what I have done at this time. This horse has worse problems than the imbalance to deal with. I would have figured you would have marked those up.

Are you allowed to post up here, this horse does have shoes on.:p:p

Justin,

This is old plowed ground. Yes, she may post, and there's no reason for you to "bring down" the level of this excellent thread by starting off your post as you did. You may not personally like her, or agree with her methodology, but that's no reason not to simply reply to her post factually, and keep the whole discussion on a professional level. Thanks.

Hi Tree,
It's neat that you're willing to share with us.
The joint spacia can change within seconds as a horse is standing for rads. a look to the right or left and the joint may look compressed m/l.
I've watched a horse stand for three shots, with out moving, show three different spacial configurations. An imperceptible shift in weight, even breathing can cause apparent imbalance.
Take care, hope all is well. Peace.

I marked what I saw, Justin.

I would rather x-rays be perfect so that they clearly show what's there but you know as well I as I do that x-rays will be what they are and sometimes it's all you've got to go with, if that much, so you do your best to look them over carefully and see what they DO show.

I only saw photos showing the LF foot before and just a glimpse of the RF medially in one of those photos. The LF foot was considerably grown out or appeared so. How long ago had it been since the previous trim/shoeing? Do you have photos showing the RF from different angles?

The facing photo of the LF foot was not done with the camera dead on center to the hoof's center-line. It's difficult to determine symmetry with a photo that is off-center so I didn't see any point to marking it. However, the growth rings nearer to the hairline looked evenly spaced from the medial half on across the toe to what showed of the lateral half. I don't think I need to mark the photo to bring attention to that, do I? ;)

With imbalances, the distance between the growth rings won't be evenly spaced, as a rule. There'll be less distance (compression) along the overloaded portions and increased distance along the less loaded portions. Your lateral view of the hoof before, showed an arched situation.

Do you have photos showing the LF after you finished it?
