I leave the ground surface of the heels full and grind relief into the heels on the foot surface - can't see it in this photo, but there's enough clearance you can get a hoof pick through there.

Heres how I fit in the mud. This horse gets done every 6 wks, never grows over the shoes. He's a dressage horse.

So bar shoes would be a bad thing then?

I have found people complain about it being difficult to clean out the feet with bar shoes too...

Well first you have to have a client that uses a hoof pick.

A while back I had a lady complain that her horse was standing "funny" and she thought I should "fix the trim". The horse was standing on a giant ball of packed stall bedding and muck. I fixed it with a hoof pick. LOL

Mike, what I was actually referring to is. When a shoe is cranked in the heels the support of the wall will soon be lost as the heel grows over and then the seat of corn is where problems arise. Just talking about what I see when I follow this tight of shoeing.:) Barshoes are a totally differant ball of wax, I see them as temporary type shoes, they are providing support behind the bulbs so they really aren't into the sulcus unless fit incorrectly?

Gary do you see this happening with the shoeing I showed, the cranked in heels that is? Or was your statement just about putting a check in the heels, for the ease of cleaning.

Gary, not real sure because you do have good support from what I can see in the second photo of your shots? Shoe almost looks like a half size too big maybe??:confused:I tend to grind heels like these into ones that will self clean and still provide lateral support to both heels. We don't have the rocks and root problems you speak of, or at least my trailriders don't come home with a bunch of lost shoes? In fact, I have some TWH trailriders that go out with liteshod shoes on and they stick out all the way to the bulbs? Granted again E. Texas and Ark and Okla are not the Rocky Mountains!:D

Pad is on upside down though. Skin side against the hoof holds up better.
