Here are the pics of the Epona's I pulled off my horse a couple days ago. They've got 4 weeks wear on them including about 200 miles on hard packed graveled roads and 50 miles of competition on varied terrain (road, sand, shale, clay, rivers and just regular rock).

they look like the held up well.

I spoke to the girls at the epona booth at the convention. Very nice and informative those two were. You couldn't tear Dr. Stewert away from them. lol.

Do you have any pics of the feet after they came off? The shoes look very waivy in the pics.
The shoes are wavy when you take them off because they have a metal stay in the middle of both branches. So, when you pull with the pullers to loosen the nails, it bends the metal. You just hammer them back flat before you reset them, or use the anvil if you need some extra to bend the other direction. After I get the nails loosened, I just use the crease pullers to remove them. But, if you don't loosen them up with the pullers first, then it's easy to mess up the nail holes digging for the nail heads with the crease pullers.

Karen,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Epona shoes; it has helped me make up my mind about what to do with 3 of my horses with issues.

Hi Smitty,

I don't know the Epona pruduct, and from what you have written they seem to have worked out well. I have used a # of plastic "horseshoes" and devices with successes and failures. I still use some of them and I like a plastic shoe for horses that need protection but who I would prefer to be barefoot. , I also make my heart bars with a plastic shoe that I bolt onto a fe shoe. I have found the plastics and rubber shoes to be slippery when not modified in wet and or frosty conditions, metal also but plastic to a greater extent.

I commented about the nails in my 1st post because of your 1st statements, I would like to ask if you think that the same results could/would be accomplished with a metal shoe glued or nailed, with or without a pad and or with or without say urethane hoof packing.

I did go to the Epona site to get pricing, in this case because you indicated thar money may be an issue ,or at least I took it that way.

Without shipping in the usa, you can do the conversion to the euro.
1 pr #2w Epona Shoes $22.00
1 14 oz tube of glue $49.00
1 bag of 10pcs tips $15.00
If a gun was needed $75.00

Ray Steele

I know this post is a bit outdated, but these prices have gone up by $20+. And you didnt include dental IM and magic granules...casting hooks, cast, whatever else. I know that stuff is optional, but just mentioning it since it seems like it could skyrocket in costs fast.

1 pr #2w Epona Shoes $31.00
1 14 oz tube of glue $55.00
1 bag of 10pcs tips $15.00
If a gun was needed $75.00
application of IM $15.00 (estimate)
shipping $14.00 (estimate)

Couple guys talking fees for glue-ons shoes in another thread, so I was thinking about Epona shoes. What do some charge for this? The whole thing- shoes, glue and nailing, dental IM, and hind trim?? Do they stay on like a soundhorse?

Smitty, Eric, and anyone else- still using them?

Ray, how do you bolt on a plastic shoe to your steel shoe to make heartbars? Any pics?

Peters Shoeing,

I'll look for pics, Mike Gallenberger wrote something in the Farriers Journal about it but I forget if it showed pics.
I'll check

I only use them if somebody is looking for a plastic shoe. I don't have any in them right now and generally talk people out of using them if I can.

I use equipak instead of im with them

They stay on like any other direct glued shoe.
