Just got home from the toy store, I mean the supply store. Brought home a JHM Certifier and a NC Whisper Momma. Gonna see how much steel I can wreck tommorrow afternoon. Why don't they sell forging talent at the supply house?

Awesome!

I love new tools.

I'm also planning to buy some new things on Monday. I plan on upgrading to a Forgemaster Forge.

Enjoy wrecking some steel. I've been dying to wreck some myself but I wrestled 2 donkeys last week and now my darn wrist is killing me.

Have fun.

Can't wait to see how the Certifier works for you. I am getting ready to buy a new anvil, but I can't decide between the Certifier and the Emerson tradition. (My favorite was the Bowerman the Mr. Pethick showed us, but a little out of this price range this time!) Looking forward to the "wrecked" steel pics :)

Amy,
I have a jhm journeyman in storage that I haven't used yet(it's new) so I don't know how it is but I have owned and sold a emerson #100 tradition.

The emerson I bought because it was the closest to a round horned anvil I've seen that's easily avialible in most supply stores. However, the horn wasn't big enough in my opinion and it was extremly loud and that's why I sold it.

I then bought a #200 Kohlswa and a #80 Swan anvil. I keep the Kohlswa in my shop and use the Swan on the road. I love the Kohlswa but obviously it's to big to lift in and out of the truck. The Swan is a very nice anvil but it's still not perfect.

I've owned and sold a NC big face, #70 JHM Basic, and a #100 Emerson Tradition anvil.

Good luck.

I have had a journeyman anvil for about 5 months now and i love it. I know some people who have certifiers and they seem to like them.

I'm liking the future 3 I got from one of the guys on the site here, the horn seems plenty round enough for my liking.

Amy,

Hold on to your $$$ and find a Hay Budden or a Peter Wright.

Peter Wrights tend to have a smaller horn than the Hay Buddens.

My Peter Wright weighs 121lbs and I love it.

I have a 260# JHM in the shop that I like making shoes on.

I also have a Future 3 minus the turning cams and the clip horn(they were removed with extreme prejudice). The Future 3 never gets used anymore.

Andrew,
You'r gona love the Journyman. I put it in and out everyday no problem.
The only problem is that they don't look as cute as the certifier and they're not as easy to bounce around.

I have a 125 JHM Journeyman in the shop mounted to a huge stump. Future 3 in the truck. They are both nice but I like the Future 3 a tiny bit more. The Future 3's turning cams are built on an angle and the turning cams on the JHM are straight..... I think the angled cams are a little more convenient.

Troy, the turning cams are not the best thing to use for moving heels. I used to do it that way then someone showed me how to use the end of the horn. Much easer, more control for a better heel, and faster.

Enough with your anti-cam craft brewed ale plalaber. Real shoers bend heels in hardy holes and drink light lager.

Guys,
It seems to be hard to find a modern made anvil without that unnecessary garbage on it anymore.

If using your equipment properly you wont need that stuff.

Hey Tom, woe unto you if you got caught using the hardy hole for that purpose at the fly-by-night shoeing school I went to! That was a bigger sin that beating cold iron or not charging enough which they were very forgiving about :)

George you would be surprized how many people are not
comfortable useing any part of an anvil on a

daily basis
