TOPIC: Pyramid Anvil Stand Filled With Dirt

wow I like that, did you make it, or buy it?

It's not mine. It's part of the WCB equiptment.

They are selling them. If your near one of the contest sites you can get one without having to get it shipped.

Right now my shop anvil is sitting on a plywood pyramyd. If you want to make one just take a sheet of 3/4" plywood rip it into 2" wide strips. Fill the middle with sand or something else heavy.

I am a little slow. Can you explain more or show drawings/pictures?

Cut a solid top from 3/4" plywood. Cut some more of the plywood into strips of equal width. I cut mine at 1.75", but you can adjust it from about 1.5" to 2".

Make a rectangle from four strips. Continue making rectangles, incrementally increasing the length of your strips so the base gets larger with each rectangle. Offset or stagger your layout, and glue and screw as you go. You'll go through a lot of glue, so your best bet is a caulk gun and a couple of tubes of construction adhesive.

Depending upon the overall height of your stand, you will want the increments to be smaller or larger. My stand is fairly short, so I went with a 1/4" difference in length.

When you've got it within 3/4" of the desired height, cut your last piece solid. I actually cut my last two solid.

That's your basic setup. You can set up the top in various ways for attaching the anvil. Center a hole under the anvil (I used a door knob drill attachment), and fill it with playsand (or some kind of sand that's not going to attract and suck moisture).

as i said before stump in the ground will never move it only as to be the size of the base of the anvil your find your get a bad back leaning to far forward if you cant get close i make shoes ever day and learnt off the old folk back in the sixtys one other thing you need to know a anvil must not be flat it must lean away from you this is so hammer and anvil meet flat together just to add set wooden boards in floor wear you stand your never get cold feet and your legs wont ack thats a fact

Someones a bit afraid of change!

I'm kidding. Your right though, if your happy with your layout, then you really shouldn't need to move too many things. I dont have a dedicated shop area at my farm. There are too many things going on. One day I shall build a shope out back and take care of that problem.
