Coke is available through www.blacksmithdepot.com. I think I'll order some and try it out.

Doesn't centaur sell it too?

nice work Tom probley one of the hardest shoes to make right
you normally get twenty mins to make one in compitition

you could have picked an easier shoe for xmas presseys
what you make it out of 10 1/2 inc of 1 x 1/2
Seems to me that's what we used. We built a bunch of them that day - my mentor and I working in the fire together. Each heat he would work his shoe, then I would follow with my shoe copying what he did on his. I just wanted to do the forging exercise. Now I can't even remember the sequence to build one.

I thought the first one started a bit late and overcompensated. :o

Here's another front-

This is driving me nuts. I think I'm just going to buy the guide-fuller and see if that helps unless somebody has a better idea.

I don't get why the hinds are coming out OK and the fronts are putting up such a fight.

RE:Bar stock cutting 18 Feb 2007 01:54 #115

I think I've figured out the problem. Heat changes how the fuller sets into the section. I was fullering from left to right trying to do the whole shoe in one heat, as I ran out of heat the fuller dosen't slide down the concave inner edge as much.

That's why the hinds were coming out more consistently. I"m only fullering one branch at a time after I break the toe.

:D

I posted this in modifying machine shoes and haven't got much feed back, thought I'd post it here and see if I have any luck. Constructive critisizm welcomed. I'm still learning....

http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t59/wellshodhorses/onion%20heel/

Onion heel out of 10 1/2inch of 3/8 by 1. I dont have a fuller for this work so it is all done by hammer and creaser. It' my first attmpt so go easy on me....

ps Did you see B Pethicks onion heel, INCREDIBLE....

Brian, did you intend this shoe to be a hind pattern?

Its a hind shoe on the convention list.

Brian, nice shoe for you first one. I've made a couple, they seem to be coming out really nice and before I know it they're ready for the s**** pile.

I don't think Bob actually used a fuller on his shoe. I'm pretty sure it was all done with hammer and creaser. At least that's how I did mine.

Thanks Eric, if I found it on the ground I would figure it to be a hind.
