Brian, great photos! What was the purpose of the 3rd shoe, kind of horse, use and material? Thanks, John

John,
The clean straght bar and heart bar were pre shoe board, made only for practice from st croix ex-ez's and some 5/16x3/4 stock.

The shoe on the horse was a st croix ev-plus, with some preshaped sectoins of 5/16x3/4 bar stock. The "holes" you can see were there to allow "Keyhole" welds which I have found to be very strong and useful for this type of fabrication. The shoes were made to use on a WB cross/severe navicular case that was at my place for about 4 months of re-hab. He could not tolerate eggbars or straight bars and heels would crush with wedge pads. TFT makes a similar shoe on the shelf, but it was too narrow in the web for this horse. Trial and error.... he is now sound and being manged by myself at the farm he came from originally about a year and a half ago.

Here is another view if you are interested.

You can't "plug in to a good current."

Sorry, I put that wrong. I meant that I plugged directly into the outlet, rather than going through an extension cord.

I have always used the Miller Wire Feed Welders. They seem to have a little better electronics for more consistant welds. (that would explain the price)
I also use a 10 gauge extension cord to get the most out of the power available.

I have used the Millermatic 130, 135 and 140 with great results.

As Phil mentioned the key to good welds is in the prep. work. :)

In this case, you still have to be concerned with the size and length of the wire between the main box and the outlet. The smaller the wire and the longer the wire, the greater the resistance and the drop in voltage across that resistance.
