You may want to contact the Pennsylvania Professional Farriers Association (PPFA) President Phil Bower, CJF. You can look him up here. There are a lot of folks in the PPFA that go to every hammer-in and forging competition they can get to. Every one of their regulars is just looking for an excuse to get in the fire and beat on some hot steel. They're an outstanding bunch of folks and very friendly and accomodating to newcommers.
Tom's right (Man I hate to say that).. Call Phil... he said they are planning a hammer in for Mid-November sometime... It will probably be either at his place in Gardners, Pa. or near New Holland... they had not set a location yet when I talked to them... They are a real good group !

Hey, Cody send me a email, or look me up in the AFA directory. I'm about an hour and a half from Harrisburg. Phil is closer thaqn that and is usually willing to at least send you in the right direction.

I will suggest you call Phil as well. PM me and I will give you his number. Pretty much anyone in the PPFA would be good to call. Well except me because i moved 700 miles away.... But if you want to come to Tenn to learn to make some shoes im not real busy right now Or you could just call Phil and save some gas money

Cody,
I also suggest beginning with some basic videos. Bob Marshall has some great videos out on shoe making as well as Doug Butler and Roy Bloom. If you have not already, I would suggest joining your local association and go to the clinics as well as any local hammer ins. If there are not any, start having some forging nights. Farriers will come.
