I trimmed a tenn walker today that lost its stacked pad set, i think a couple of weeks ago. The toes were super long, when I started to work on the sole it appeared that the live sole was not that far awa... Not much to nip off but the hoof wall had a definit broken a/p axis. the right was longer and slender O size. the left apears to be closer to a qtr horse hoof but still has a broken axis as well. it is a OO size. :confused:
Is any of this sound normal of a horse coming out of a stacked pad set?

Reason most gaited horses are alittle out of a/p alinement, is the fact that a turndown or caulk is considered when trimming. Once the shoe or package is applied everything is supposed to line up correctly. JMO, Gary

You find some WACKY shoeing jobs if you poke around stables with primarilly gated horses. I wouldnt call this abnormal. The horse had a big stack on, and who knows if its alignment was correct in the first place. Just trim the foot to the horses conformation and go from there.

Their work is TOP notch and a work of art. But I think for every 1 guy that is shoeing like this there is 1 that does not even care about the propper alignment/balance and just slap em on with the entire package. Im not ripping on anyone specific at all but I see a lot of wacky jobs that seem a bit rushed and overdone, but you know some of the best jobs can look like **** if its 8 weeks overdue. =]
