I hqave been useing these nails primarilly for a while. Then I bought a case about a month ago. I sarted getting callbacks about loose shoes. It was happening a lot. I thought it was somethign I was doing. I noticed the clinches on a lot of feet were letting loose. I thought it was my clinching. I was seeing shoes that had slid off (all the nails laid down on the shoe) of horses that I have never had shearing problems with. I re-evaluted my clinching. THe problem presisted. I had been suspecting the nails. I nailed up a few shoes, capewell sb5 on one foot and the dletas on the other. 3 weeks later the delta clinches had lifted and the capewells were still tight. I returned the rest of my deltas immediatly. I havent been having any problems since switching to Capewell SB 5's. I have been rethinking my nail situation. I like the SB Naula nails that Ray Steel sold me, they were a bit beefier than the Capewell Sb5's, but not as beefy as the capewell CH5's. The only problem is they are not marked very noticabely so you have to look at each nail more thouroly. But they are a nice nail. I have also been useing capewell CH5's on tough feet, and the sb5's on the the others. I have used strictly the deltas for a while, I wont be buying anymore.

Clip the shoes and drive the Deltas. Wha la, no more slid shoes and you can finish out the case of Delta nails. I have been driving the Capewell SB's but occassionally drive some Deltas.

Hey Jeff,
I returned the rest of the nails. My suplier is good about that. I dont clip everything. Since switching to the capewells i've had no problems.

Might want to give the Australian 5city and 5slim a try. Also, Ray Steele has a nice 5 nail.

Is this a new problem? I primarly use Delta Slimblade 5's. I have had some recent problems and have been blameing the wet weather then dry and it is also fly season. However I have had problems with horses that have never lost shoes in the past. I just bought KH SSP that use E head. I am going to use the MX 50 nail. The first set of SSPs I put on the horse lost a shoe, however this horse looses his RF about every other shoeing do to on and off hind end issue.

A few years ago I use the Austrailian Nails then got tired of my bottom lip turning black and worried that I might be poisening myself from the oil film.

Hi Phil,
Try the MX 55 or the MX60 in those SSP's. Much better than the MX 50, A bit more head than the 50 too. :) Ken

I remember Delta having a problem about five years ago with quality control. The nails would shear off, I was told that it was a problem with a bad batch of steel at the plant. I liked Delta slims on thin walled horses, but was spooked to go back.
I try to take one day at a time -- but sometimes several days attack me at once.

I switched to the Deltas slim 5's after having a bad shearing problem with Mustads four years ago.....haven't had a problem since.
Have you changed brands of shoes? So maybe different crease....Maybe the heads aren't seating like they were?
Personally I dont like the Aussies. I find them far too stiff. Theres a place for that, but not clinching : ;)

Ive decided I REALLY like the Naula Nail that Ray Steel sells. the shank/head fits really nice in most types of shoes. It drives nice, is a hair stiffer then the deltas, but not as stiff as a capewell. The slimblade has a beefier shank then the capewell sb5, but it fits shoes a capewell CH5 wont. Its a nice nail. Oh its less expensive also.
