Does anybody know the name of a type or brand of pad that has a solid rim and mesh over the sole? They looked like they were made of a yellow plastic. I saw some at an endurance ride. The on-call farrier showed them to me...he likes to use them on endurance horses because the mesh protects the soles from rocks while allowing water to drain out. I'm asking on behalf of a farrier who has an endurance client and hasn't seen these pads. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the pad or the manufacturer.

Thanks,
Pam

I dont know, havent heard of them.. I dont know if i like the idea though.. Seems like small pebbles and dirt would get stuck in there. BUT they would be great for useing equipak or somthing.

I think you are talking about the epona shoe.

No, Luwex Pads. They come in colors. Green-00,0 Yellow- 1,2 Blue- 3,4

I introduced these pads to the endurance community in '98. They do really well with equipak.

Jaye,

Do you always use a filler(equipak, impression material, etc) with that pad or do you sometimes apply it and leave it as is?

I'm with Josh here in that I'd worry about the build up of debris that was too large to siphon out through the mesh.

I am wiht Rick and Josh. I have used them on occasion, yet I shoot the foor with equi-pak to ground level.
I guess I am worried about debris getting in under the pad, either throught the perferation or through the back of the pad. Were the frog is the pad is not very stiff and it could easily let in forgein material.

Does Luwex even manufacture these anymore?
I used to use the flex knife sharpener and it was the easiest, quckest way to get you knife razor sharp from the hook all the way back. They don't make them anymore. So now i use emory paper and all alligator clips. Same affect but cheaper in the long run, I guess. So a bit off topic :D just curious if the still manufacture them?

To my knowledge the pad was never meant or designed not to have filler in it. Luwex has there own filler which I have had a lot of trouble with, from not setting up; to the liquid catalysts setting up in the bottle before I could use it. I have switched over to using Equthane products under this type of pad and have had great results. The mesh in the pad is designed to hold the packing material.

I also had a little trouble with the "light as a feather packing". I switched to Equipak also. I use a lot of the knobby Luwex for coffin joint issues. It's another tool for certain situations.
