Hey

Im in the prosceeds of building a 12 volt powered linisher useing a multi tool linisher and an old heavy duty starter motor
the kind they used on the fire truck hose reals
and Im thinking of setting it up with like a foot throtle to control speed a bit like a sewing mashine uses as these thing un like a mains electric motor will rev like buggery or does anyone have a better idear
any one done anything like this before have you any hints to pass on

Id like to do something with a 12 volt powered pedistal drill as well

Now you might think why bother

well I dont do any work in big barns and only smallish jobs the bigger ones may be say two shoeings and a couple trims and more ofen than not nowhere near mains power

you might say what about a power generator or an inverter , OK but Id still like to just try this and see how we go yeah

I have a kalamazoo belt sander model 2fsm and i like it. You can search for their website (kalamazoo industries) and maybe get some ideas on building one similar. They have many different models and pictures. Hope that helps.

right um I need to modify the sharft on the motor and possibley the large pully to alowe the pully centures to line up for belt placement and tracking
then a base frame for the unit and wire her up

Ive seen this motor going in a test bench at an auto electrision
shop
you'd need to be a bloody good man to wack a big enough head lock on it to stop it , shell drive the belt well enough , speed control is the isue
and maybe lubrication on the sleves , no bearings ay




so waddayuz recon any idears

Uhm speed for one, what are the rpm's of a starter motor? Second power supply. I know a starter motor drains a battery real fast. Maybe the power needed for a sander is less so the battery holds out a little longer, but I don't know.
