Why would I? I wouldn't, but back in my younger days in Colorado, all the ranchers had to have Diamond toe and heel on their horses. They thought that it added extra traction. The horses in my string got rim shoes, always thought dirt on dirt worked better. One client's ranch had a bunch of rimrock scattered through out. He would buy a box of shoes and in the winter when he wasn't busy apply borium to the toe and heels, never had one slip out from under him. but he was the exception not the rule.
