man I'm really hoping this works because I use a huge amount of Grand Circuit's supreme support. But here's me playing devil's advocate: isn't starch a carb?? I mean would you put any other foodstuff under a pad and come back 6 weeks later and not expect to find a colony of new growth. Won't it start to ferment or something? I'm not chemist here...hoping Mr Stovall or one of the other guys that seems to have a good science backround can comment on this.

Ever hear of play dough? It is mostly flour,

Alicia, yes I think I have heard of play-doh thanks, LOL

I use it often as I'm sure we all do to block off an area for an Equipak pour. But, I always remove it after the Equipak sets. Are you saying you have used Play-doh as packing under a pad?????

Sorry I thought you were a germ phobe like me.:D

I am always grossed out at play dough as like you say starch is a microbial growth medium and kids... are germy as heck.

They roll it around with boogery hands, scratch in appropriate places, roll it around some more, expose it to crazy amounts of germs while playing with it then put it in an air tight container till next time they want to play. For some reason no one dies.

Anyways the DIY dental impression material should be safe as the corn starch is saturated and incapsulated in the silicone. Theoretically moisture shouldn't be able to get through so the starch shouldn't cause any issues.

LOL, and yet you handle horse feet all day? So you think little kids and playdoh carry more germs than hooves packed with urine soaked bedding and manure? Children must be kinda "earthy" up there in the great white north, eh?

In any case, I'm really not concerned much about starch in the feet.

I still haven't actually used this on a horse yet, (I ended up shoeing my Percheron and ran outta give a damn the other day) but I think its gonna work great. The stuff I mixed the other day is still nice and pliable, a little softer than normal equi-pak.

There is no reason why you couldn't mix a little CS in there either.

LOL, I have a peanut butter jar filled with corn starch and mixed in enough copper sulfate to make it blue. It's what I'm intending to use when I apply it. I'm gonna go get some small paper cups to mix it in with a tounge depressor.

Good thread this one
bitta fun and some good info
Our Dough Boys come up with a gooden
gee Id have liked to have been there on the day yeah

Like olmate Toms idea , spose a bloke will have to play with that one to get the right mix

I also wonder if any of you have used the newer bondo type of wood putty for carpentry to rebuild hooves
it water proof apparently and can be drilled nailed screwed tacked a good hammering sets quickly pending on the amount of hardener used

also I heard of a feller using a tube of liquid nails with a bit of hardener mixed to build up hooves n glue on shoes

anyone ever tried this
Down here under the Great down under we pay through the coyte for anything but if its marked equine its big bucks so we go on the scab for things to do a good job cheap

Good on ya Joe
