Hey, I have a Whisper Momma that started acting up today. One burner seems to not be working. No flame seems to be coming out into the box under the right side (facing the forge). I tried tightening the bolts on top over that burner but it didn;t help.

Anyone have a similar isssue?

Any help would be appreciated

Did you try cleaning the ports?

take the bar off and take the ports out blow everything out with a bit of air and put back together. It will work again

probably a tiny bit of teflon tape that has gotten into the port

Take the rail across the top off...if its a 2 burnner you should see 2 brass nips with tiny holes ...unscrew them and hold it up and see if u can see thru it...then blow thru it the opposite way fuel comes out ...then look again...or run a small pin thru the hole just make sure the pin is not to big and make the hole bigger ...in other words it sounds like trash clog the hole...

this is what I did when I had that problem. I told the guy who runs the supply house. He gave me new ports and I installed them. No more problem, he gave me the $2.00 worth of ports because he appreciates my business. I go back because I appreciate his help

You guys rock. I never thought about teflon tape in there. I will attempt a surgery or replace ports.

if i had replaced the orfices everytime mine have plugged up i be buying them if bulk:D I think the square tubing that the burner bar is made out of has rust flakes inside so every so often i have to clean the tips. not to bad on my old one anymore, but have new one in shop and it just as bad.

Interesting topic. Do you think the newer N.C. forges are more problematic than the older ones? ( I've been running an N.C. Whisper Lowboy since '93, and the only thing I've ever had to touch on it was the Guage, igniter, and liners, and some screws, and the door handle.) Oh, never mind, I guess that's about everything :D. I was just thinking about how trouble free it's been, until I really thought about it. All in all, it's been a really good forge, I guess.

PS. Oh yeah, and the hose.

Rick I think mine has to do with the treatment of it....I'm rough on all things tools... also I have noticed I can shake my propane tanks and hear trash in there when empty....my also tends to clog at the time my tank runs out...also my forge of 12 years or so has always sat. To the back og my rig where moister tends to be higer and may have rust in the bar..I will say they do build them to last the only thing I have replaced is the lighter ....I need to replace the liner about 5 years ago...and I have put a new door on it that I made... and I use my forge on all horses ..I only cold shoe maybe 5 times a year...so a forge is a tool I would advise a new farrier to spend the money on a good one...

I have the same problem as well every so often. I just pull the bar and ports, clean with a oxy/ac torch tip cleaner and she goes like new.

I was reading the literature that came with my new Forgemaster and it says you need to bleed the propane after shutting off the forge or it builds up a resin in the fuel line. I don't know it it's related or not, but it's something to think about.

I had a problem with my burners just a few months ago. I took the bar off cleaned it, cleaned everything and put it back together. Next day still had problems. Took the bar off again, and looked everything over and saw the smallest flake of rust blocking the way in the brass tip. Blew it out and it works great. Left side still gets a little hotter faster though, but atleast she is not spuddering!

My Whispermomma does this and I have wondered if the left side should have a smaller tip than the right to even out the flow but, the gentleman at the supply house says "not recommended". I'm to chicken to try it out for myself so I guess I'll just stick with a forge that's hotter on one side.

I thought they were made that way on purpose so that you could put one shoe one the right, and by the time you were done shaping it the one on the left would be ready to go? LOL Thats the way mine works anyway.
The harder I try the luckier I get.
