I've seen some like that made from copper pipe, even came close to making one more than a few times. In the end I bought a Cobra, then another after wearing that one out. Athough, with tools, my box is considerably heavier seeing as I shoe foot wavers, I carry about every hand tool you can think of, plus drill with a buffer and a pair of bolt cutters at most stops.

You carry your bolt cutters and drills in you box? I leave mine in the truck until I need them.

I use mine mostly for cutting the bolts on bands.

It's just a cordless drill, and a 14" pair of bolt cutters, but yes I do. It's on wheels, so why not? I do pull them when I have a stop where I don't need them, but I generally just leave them in there all the time.

My box has wheels too but I still have to lift it in and out of the truck and it's too heavy as it is. Also, not all barns have floors that are very wheel friendly.

I say A for effort, but I don't think the pvc box would hold up for a day with me.

My shoeing box, I prefer very light, but sometimes the horses break it, but it is easy to replace any part. I've made it!

I am not real particular about a floor box. However I would have to have my forge more than eighteen inches off the floor.

Made a new shoeing box today. I've been wanting something light weight for a long time and designed this, with all the tools in it, can't weigh more than 15lbs. Might make a few adjustments if I ever build another....but it's pretty sturdy, holds all the tools well and it rolls nice. Plus for about $30.00 in my costs, it sure as heck saved me from spending a couple hundred on a new one. Fits good on the truck too.

Since the pics were taken, I've added a bin for my nails and will be putting magnets on the sides for my rasps tomorrow, I've also dipped the handle in rubber. Havent decided what to do about my knives yet, but I've more than enough space with the two trays (may have made it a tad wide for my needs)....just haven't figured out how to make a good knife holder yet.

I use electrical schedule 40 pvc of the 3/4" variety (water pipe pvc would work as well). Cut it into the length you deem necessary and use some wire to tie it on wherever you think is best. It allows you to put in a knife and protect the blade and the handle won't sink into the pvc pipe.

I think at the bottom would be possible to place a tray for old shoes.

Horses crash into anything any time
whether made of plastic steel or wood or aloy if you land on it or the horse will it hold up , or splinter
will it cut you or horse

some of that pvc n plastic tubing will shatter or break with very dangerous sharp pointed ends , Ive seen it to be nasty stuff
I see wood boxes smashed to bits
alloy n steel can present potential problems

we need to think ahead , to try to alleviate potential prangs before they happen or at least try to lessen the effects of one
its one thing to think of horse safety but you n I AND the client are far more important
Ive a friend who has a plough disk n pipe hoof stand
that's OK Ive used one for ever but olmate has welded a small break drum to the base to hold nails n stuff and has two horse shoes tacked to that to hold tools
rasp clenches etc
these stick out at a slight angel to the main post and to my thinking look like a bad prang waiting to happen
I had expressed this to olmate and he said never happen n he was happy with the design
Well it happened and he was the one come out on the worse end of the deal
crook with busted up ribs for yonks
Ive been bowled arse over head and landed on my trolley several times as well been lucky too
Ive had horses stand up on top shelf of trolley and not break it and only slight cut to them , LUCKY

maybe just me but I don't like tools in thongs just dropped to ground
any Ive seen look a mess I saw olmate used this type of tool bag for ever always look untidy , rusty scratched poo covered tools ,yeah but in all the time I spent with him I only ever saw horses stand on the tools a couple slipped but no injurys LUCKY?
I prefur a trolley
The next one I make will probably be of alloy with as little or no sharp edges and as least protruding objects as possible and with rubber swivel wheels my hoof stand will stay the same but I will replace the rubber around the rim of the base, this is for sound suppression as they ring like a bell on concrete n tar
what I don't like about the rubber is that it wont slide easily so I cant be flicked outta harms way in an instant with your foot arm hand like you sometimes need to
any design idea we come up with to use around horses no matter how good can be faulted by the horse
they are not inanimate objects they are unpredictable and there fore potentially dangerous
We all like gadgets they are handy make life easier BUT how smart are they could it cause a prang or make one worse
your safety and therefore longevity in this industry depends almost solely on you
Then you have to look out for everyone else yeah , don't doubt that for an instant
Like my bottom line says , Mind how ya go ;)
Mark Anthony Amor
If we want anymore excrement like that outta you we'll squeese ya head
Mind how ya go now ;)
