I'm picking up a new Forgemaster Blacksmith Monday, and I'm wondering what kind of bottle I should get for my trailer.

I've used the one up at A&M a number of times, and they have it on a 100# tank, but thats not gonna work in my trailer. (Too hard to get in/out)

Would a 60# tank work ok? Mind you I'm talking about extended run times not just pulling clips now and then.

With my whisper momma I could run a 15# tank empty with the regulator wide open on a 55 degree day, I dont think I can do that with a with a Forgemaster.

Also, how do the liners in these things hold up in a truck/trailer? I do need it on the road for some of my gaited horse accounts, and I just picked up an account with some vanners and clydes. (which is actually why I'm finally buying a new forge)

Thanks for any input.

a friend of mine has a the blacksmith model with what I think is a 30lb tank(he has a cap and any larger tank he couldn't get it in and out the side doors) and he doesn't have any issues.... I have a 40lb tank in my trailer and his tank is smaller so I'm assuming its a 30lb?

not sure about the blacksmith model in particular, but i have the small single burner forgemaster and the lining is great!
a friend of mine has the hooded model in his stonewell and its also great, he did have to make some mods to keep the liner in the door and ceiling of it from falling but the floor liner in all of them is awesome! doesnt crack etc!

I would suspect about 3 pounds of propane per hour of burn time in average use. 30# would give about 10 hrs burn time. Less with a lot of welding or in competition.

OK, so a few days late but I finally got er picked up. Still don't have a bottle yet, and I may have to wait another couple days till I can get one. My stepdad can get them for me for cost so I'm willing to wait. That and I don't actually "need" the forge and don't have time to get it set up in the trailer anyway. (I'm gonna have to rearrange some things to make her fit without burning the trailer up.)

Hopefully I can make to time to play with it tomorrow night. :D

Jack,

My concern is more about having the bottles freeze up than consumption. I know this forge has a heavier draw, and I just want to make sure I get a big enough tank to not have to worry about it.

I suppose I should have been more consice about my inquiry.

Sorry, On a reread, I can see what I missed in your original post. I can do some calculations, but best ask some one using one. I really suspect that in Texas (temps above 50) that a 30# bottle would be plenty. Have fun with it.

My forgemaster will freeze the tank, bbq grill size. This was when I was in Indiana. Haven't tried here in Texas yet.

It will here too. I think I'm gonna go for at least 40's.

BTW, I'm glad you put your own face back up as your avatar, I was starting to think you had some "work" done. LOL ;)

Joey, Search on propane freezing, you'll get plenty of info, but most just like a 40 pounder for a forgemaster, and in cooler weather keep it about 1/2 full.

If I have to forge that much, I find a tub, fill with water and put my tank in it and no freeze up??:D You dont have to fill up completely, but it does work...

Mama always said work smart not hard.

The tank will thaw on it's own, I'll just hang out and work on my Jedi mind tricks! LOL
