Shoeing Box photos 05 Nov 2005 20:22 #1

I'd like to see some of your shoing boxes. I am going to build mine out of wood and when I get something I like, I'll copy it in Aluminum. Just looking for Ideas.
thanks

My box was fabricated by the metal shop at Alvin High School in Alvin, Texas and purchased from Alvin Farrier Supply about ten years ago. I added the wheels because I think it's more sporting when the victim has a moving target.

I've got one of these from Nature Farms-

The height and nice big wheels are nice. Once it hits the barn asileway I don't have to lift it again until it's time to load up.

Ther was a guy up at the contest in Vermont who had duplicated the design out of copper pipe and elbows. It looked pretty slick! You can get the Kydex material for the trays from Jantz supply on OK. (www.knifemaking.com)

Hi all,

I have plans for the basic shoeing box if anyone is interested. I personally use a rubber pail with pieces of fire hose tie strap-ed to the sides to put the tools in which I really like.

Here's my new shoeing box I made this summer. The shelves pull out to clean out the box or to lighten the load for just trrimming. I wanted a sturdier box than my first one which was pine ( but stood up to almost 9 years of use( and a few tromples). But I kind of overdid the sturdy part- I used 5/8" Outdoor Plyboard and the thing weighs a ton! If I get time again this fall or winter- I'll redo the box in pine. The top makes a nice seat for doing minis and old geezer horses. I would prefer larger wheels- but can't seem to locate exactly what I am looking for yet.

Josh, Are you paying for the Post Trauma Vet exam for poor fluffy? MRI? Psychic reading and aura realignment atleast? Maybe Fluffy was allergic to wood and the owner would be willing to buy you a non allergenic aluminum shoeing box?

My plywood box usually ends up folded nice and flat about 2" tall.

I have been using the same style box for several years now.. this one is about for years old. I also made my "slide out" and "rig" setup.

Just ordered one of these:
http://www.tooljack.com/
You have to scroll to the bottom of the page to see it.

Its what comes of having too much time to wander around the Trade Show at the Summit. I ordered mine in red with black shelves. They weren't sure they could get it in those colors at this time, but they were going to try.

Didn't really need a new shoeing box, but what the heck, I told my kids I was taking an advance on what would otherwise be part of their inheritance.

That shoeing box got put back together a few times, I have a stonewell aluminum box now. I like it. The wheels make such a differance when your tired you dont have to lift the box up, just wheel it.

Rick,
That thing is huge! I dont like big boxes like that for some reason. Its not a bad idea though. Its just too bulky for my tastes. Kevin has some good ideas, and he's a very nice guy to chat with. The best salesman are the ones who truly believe in their product!

Brian,
that thing is a tank! =]

It is that.... I guess I am spoiled because most of my stops are half or full day stops and all of them are inside work where I can setup once and not have to move around. If I was doing backyard or one horse stops,I guess I would have to move to a lighter box. Anyway, I like it and it didn't cost much. Plus, this box matches my rig... :)
