I have only tried one Vallorbe, ( it was given to me at IHCS a while back), and though I didn't think it sucked, it sure wasn't worth over 2 times the money...... I have been using the Wood Millers for over two years now, and I can't find anything that beats them and they cost 13 - 14 bucks...... I know a lot of people think they are too sharp out of the box.

I bought three and am happy with how they work but will be returning to using Wood millers after they are worn out. Too costly for what they are.

I didn't like the file side, it was really rough. Wasn't better than a saveedge.

I've always liked Save Edge but their inconsistency in quality drives me crazy. And when they got out they were great. But then making money starts being more important than quality and there you go. What drives me crazy about that is that we provide quality each and every time. In the rain, in the heat with unruly horses and with ingnorant owners. What that costs us, money wise that is, we don't count because it our job. Those people at Save Edge just have to make a rasp that's all. No working with horses or other matters that you could never enter into a spreadsheet. Simple but you still have to have the feel for quality and for me they just don't care enough where we - their customers- do.

Legend is an ok rasp, and each and every one is the same. At least those guys have their manufacturing deal worked out. Been using them for years now.

Ron, I agree about the Save Edges! I will try some of them Legends next time I supply up. I also agreed on the statement of quality! As Farriers, if something goes wrong after a trim or reset or new shoe job and the client calls right after, we always get back and attempt to repair and better the situation. Try to see that in any other occupation. The AC guy comes out to fix the air and after many dollars on new this and that and still not work they charge more for other stuff that should of been what was replaced first, there we are with a bill for parts not really needed? This from Regulated and Certifited workers? I guess the rasp companies work the same way?

Gary, you need a new AC guy. Most are just parts changers until they finally replace the part that fixes the problem.

Although I thought it a bit expensive when I bought it I'm pretty happy with how it works.

Have any of you guys tried them yet? I'm hoping their consistently good and that I didn't just luck out and get a good one.

Any feedback or comments?
George

I see that some of you have used the new Heller Legends and Red Tangs that were given out at the IHCS and AFA convention. They are the latest production, from now on those rasps will all be individually put in those protective sleeves. Rasps packaged the "old fashioned" way tend to get dulled during shipping. From what I have experienced the latest production of the Heller (formerly Simonds) rasps are the best yet as to how they run and last and seem to be consist in quality.

Any body have any feed back on the these?

I was given a free rasp at a clinic, can't even remember the name of it, one week and it was about as much use as a chocalate fire guard.

I use the Legend's and of late, the finish side of the rasp gets dull after about 4 horses. The coarse side works really well, but the quality and consistency of the fine side s-u-c-k-s.

The Red tang I got at the Summit worked well for a while but clogged and seemed to dull rather easily and quickly.

Seems to me as if ,we should all get on to tha Rasp makers and tell them what we want ,,,,,test them and then maybe they would get their finger out and make a good one at last!!
