Lately I've been using a Swiss Vallorbe Rasp.
Although I thought it a bit expensive when I bought it I'm pretty happy with how it works.

Have any of you guys tried them yet? I'm hoping their consistently good and that I didn't just luck out and get a good one.

Any feedback or comments?
George

They seem to have a good edge new all the same as i can see..
I have had them ,found them really good to start and then from one horse to the other blunt.
seemed to me that the rasps where very pointed and so as soon as they hit any grit or anything they just stop working ..
now i have gone back to safe edge .but will be trying mercury as soon as my stock on safe edge goes down, there only seem to be two good SE in a box..
why oh why??
regards.

30 bucks is a lot of money. I've been wanting to try one but the cheapskate in me just wont let it happen. Pretty happy with the red tang I that I got at the convention really holding up well, and I work a rasp until its working me, told you all I was a cheapskate. I'm interested to know what others think of the vallorbe though.
Stay safe

Although I have never tried Vellorbe, I'm a fan of Heller Legend. Seem to get more life out of them than any other.

I bought three of them a while back files side won't hardly cut a foot, but they rasp steel like nothing else and do not dull. I talked to some guys at the summit and they told me they couldn't get deep enough grooves in the file side due to hardness so they wouldn't clean out well, but they have got that figured out, but they are not putting the new ones on market till old inventory is gone.

Same here. I liked the rough side but I found the finishing side wasn't what I liked so I switched back to Belotta.

Belotta'd sent a few bad batches to my supplier so I tried other brands until the new shipment came in. I'm happy to be back to the rasp I've gotten comfortable with but I'm not a die hard Belotta fan. I used to buy SE until I started having problems with consistency with them. I wondered if it was just me but the supplier said a lot of the guys were complaining about it at the same time as I was.

Ditto :) I have tried numerous rasps as and when they come onto the market but always end up back with the legend

I'm just so used to Bellotta it would be hard the switch, especially if the Vallorbe are more expensive.

Tried one, it didn't cut worth a d*mn, turned it into a hoof pick and a boot scr*per. Works great now. :p

Went back to using the Legend.

Smitty,
Hadn't used many Save Edge in 5-6 years. Became very inconstant from one to the next.May have to try a couple again. Was always my first choice,Bellota second.Did try hitting some on the buffer,(read it here on forums)seemed to work.

Have a good one,

Clint
