Did a bunch of ponies yesterday. They are going to show on "grass' next week. So here are a few pics of some "down dirty" traction on some 5/8" half-round:

I used a #5 city head nail:

Drill out the holes and place nail head inline with crease, looking for traction in the turns:

It's easy and functional on ponies; did 7 of the little guys yesterday. all were 3x o and 4x o.

Those shoes are STB fronts.

Standardbred Fronts/ made by Kerkhert. I use fronts on the hinds for the toe radius and length.

Plain aluminum Queens plates; 3's and 4's. Sometimes St. Croix Ultra light Rims; 3x o. All depends on the footing(s)

Good tip Jaye,

I have always found it easier to use a oversized nail head in place of a Jar Chalk.

Just punch the heel of the shoe for a 5 and set an 8 leaving the remaining size sticking up. Just rivet the foot side. Done.

I have never had one come out during a normal cycle.

Jaye, the half round STB shoes I've used never had a crease. Did you put that in or does that brand make them that way?

John,

Those are kerkhaert. They offer that style shoe in both creased and plain stamped.

If you want the model numbers I can send em.

Hope that helps.

I do a lot of "Show Hunters". Thus, movement, "float" and finesse. It's what the "People want". Imo, if the horse is a good mover it will be a good mover in steel or aluminum.
