Ps is the picture the place you live?? we live just under the walls of that place i have put up.

My avatar is Andover Aeroflex Airport in Andover, NJ. Close to where I live.
It is one of my favorite airports to fly in and out of in this state.

I did my tailwheel training there and advanced Bush Flying course. There is a grass strip on the right of the paved 1800' runway.

There is a lake at each end of the runway, which makes it really cool.

John, are you still using save egde rasps the last few months the ones i have been getting have been terrible, definitely not the same . i don't know whats happened to them but i can't seem to find any good ones anymore. i quit buying them a box at a time, i buy them one at a time now trying to find a good one. i went to a feed mill that sells some supplies and they had a old box with 3 rasps left in it . they were good but other then them i can't find any decent ones.
Dave,
I'm using "Wood Miller" rasps and have been for quite a while, they are improved from a few years back and do a nice job. Been averaging 60-70 head before they need replacing.
Best of the season to you and family.
John

A little off subject, but can anyone tell me how to get "[Originally Posted by Dave Murry ( and symbol >)]" , to appear in my replies? Do I have to type it all out, because I see this appearing in many postings. Thanks]

Just leave the QUOTE=John Emsley;138810 thats in bracketts at the bigining of the quote. As well as the /QUOTE thats in braketts at the end of the quote. If you want to brake up the quote in a number of diffrent statements then copy the before quote at the beginning of the statement you want to to quote and the end quote at the end of each quote. Make you comment just as you have been doing.

I hope this helps

Dave I order them direct, in fact I bought 2 boxes quite a while ago, but I do buy some stuff from Brad. Nails I find are much more reasonable from the Mennonites up here, $18 (taxes included) for 250 pcs box. It's simply a price thing.;)

I average 12 to 15 rasps per year and carry well over 200 horses on my books. (semi retired)

I use a 70 ply cotton wheel and black emery compound.

Slowly draw the rasp towards you on the underside of the wheel in the direction of the teeth from tang to end. Working your way across the width of the rasp.

Bellota Classics seem to sharpen up the best.
Rasps with more upright teeth will not sharpen as well and tear the wheel up.

I won't use a new rasp out of the box without sharpening it first! :)

Do you get much out of the smooth side of the rasp when you resharpen it? I find that I can sharpen the rough (rasp) side well, but the smooth (file) side just sharpens OK to no good.
