This is part #3 of the "Tools Collection" thread I started. If you haven't seen them yet, start with the first thread to get the whole story.

Here's an old print of a farrier using one of those hoof buttresses I showed in photos earlier.

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg181/msgough/Blacksmith-Shop/IMG_0042.jpg?t=1225771177

Various nail nippers and a couple of tongs. They range from big to little. The smallest ones on the right were only about 4 inches long. I think you could use some as nippers for mini's.

http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg181/msgough/Blacksmith-Shop/IMG_0041.jpg?t=1225771279

Collection of rasps. What made it interesting is that each one is from a different manufacturer.

Bob really likes to collect clinchers. Here's a few that he has. Most are hand made at the forge.

He had one that was a mechanical/geared roller type. I liked it so much I bought it! I'll post a pic of that a bit later.

Here's a collection of various tools. The buttresses are steel handled and manufactured versus the home-made type. Some of the other stuff I can only guess at. Maybe you know.

Forged shears and loppers and the biggest hoof testers I've ever seen. Course, they probably aren't hoof testers... but sure look like it. Maybe some kind of ladel tong? Not sure.

Various gate latches, tie loops and other forged stuff.

I don't know what most of this is, but it's all hand forged. Some of it is BIG. That ring is about 8" in diameter.

Punches, creasers, crosspeins, etc.

Did I mention that Bob likes clinchers?

Bob had two of these old shoers boxes. He sold one to Lee Liles for his shoeing museum in Oklahoma. This one is still available.

The top spins to reveal the various size shoe nails the farrier might need.

This is an amazing drill press. Can run from either a motor driven belt or the hand wheel. It works very smooth and has two gear sets so you can slow the speed way down.

I asked Bob how he mounted this thing. It must weigh around a thousand pounds. He mounted two bolts near the ceiling and used a 2-ton come-along to winch it up on the wall!

Here's a close up of the manufacturers info on the drill press. Notice the date!

Makes one feel a bit meloncholy for the old days of manufacturing in America. I think those days are long behind us folks.

These are some old stairs leading to the second floor of the cabin.

Notice the railroad track anvils that line the staircase.

So, you don't think you make enough money shoeing horses? Try this 1916 prices on for size!! Georgetown is the next county over from where I live and is where a lot of you stayed at a motel during the clinic at my place last month.

While your horse was being shod, you could also get the wheels worked on your buggy or cart. Notice they had a "union". Blacksmiths were busy people back then!

Getting late folks.

If there's interest, I'll post some more tomorrow.

G'night all!

Mark
