Does anyone have any suggestions on how to pull a good toe clip. I can pull pretty decent side clips on but for some reason every time I try and pull toe clips they come out on the thin side. I never really used clips on shoes before, but I have started shoeing alot of horses that are used for driving, and the shoes seem to stick on better with the toe clip, than a regular flat shoe. I tried using side clips on some but have a hard time setting the side clips in properly without burning them on, which isn't really a problem except that alot of the horses I am working on have never been hot shod and they get crazy when the smoke starts rolling off. Any suggestions on how to set them in without burning is appreciated as well.

It appears he asked about pulling toe clips and fitting clips cold.

Bradley,
I do that to my self all the time. I hate those frog flaps because they are dirt traps. Bob Marshall kills you if you mess with them. I like to tiddy them up a bit

Hi all thanks for the help with the clips, I have been working with them using some of the advice, and they don't look perfect yet but better than they were. Right now I am working with a size 5 shoe after I get it done with the bigger shoes, I will move on to a smaller shoe, and I am sure I will have many more questions. Thanks again

That was with me, I couldn't pull a clip worth beans, but now not too bad. But it took just a lot of practice. I now use the corner of my hardy hole to focus my strikes to draw my metal for the clip. It has helped me a lot. Also I buy almost all my shoes with out clips, so when I need them, I have to do it. This has helped a lot also.

Double CF,
how are those clips coming along
i was flicking through the threads and stumbled on this one

and the week gone bye i happened to pull alot more clips
than normal.

the first year lad is starting to make sets on a daily basis
so i recon i pulled 200 clips its amasing how consistant

your clips get
your first two blows are the important ones

you can make them any size as you like or shape
so keep pumping them out

Last weekend a friend and I helped a young farrier learn to pull clips. He had problems not keeping his elbow in and pulling straight back. Got myself a long stick and every time his elbow started to come out, it got smacked. After a few smacks, as I would start to raise my stick he sucked in the elbow. He started pulling some good clips.

I think I need someone standing over me with a bat then. I'm like a bird trying to fly when drawing clips.

I hope that doesn't mean you'll quit explaining stuff how you do it. Informative good pictures that may well help anyone less experienced on his way. Isn't what this board is about?

The clips look so-so, I tried several styles that were suggested, and I can pull ok clips about half the time. My problem now is consistancy. It was pretty cold for a while here so I wasn't able to practice that much lately, but it is starting to get a little nicer so I will give it a go again.

Horses only have to smack you once if you do things wrong ,if you are not dead you never make the same mistake again ,,,,OR:(:o:confused:
