I was reading another thread and saw a picture of a set of walking horse heavy shod shoes and it made me think of how best to pull them. I have occasionally worked with a farrier that put one or two horses in these shoes. Now I have seen and used the draft pull offs, and they seem a bit clunky for me. My boss/mentor has shown me a really easy way to pull any type of shoe and it works pretty well in my estimation. Bassically, cut the clinch, rasp it smooth, then useing the pointy end of the clinchcutter drive the nail back threw. This makes it easy to grip the nail head with pull-offs. Didn't know if anyone else did this, thought I might share.

Or..take your clinch cutter and use it to losen the nail heads in the hole and just pull them with your nail nippers or pull-offs. If you need to, lift a branch a bit from the heel and knock it back down to get the nails up a bit so you can get hold of them.

Most weighted shoes aren't creased so it's just like pulling any other plain stamped shoe.

Those shoes are similar in width to the wide, rubber bonded equihotics "sneakers" that Used ot do a lot of back in California. I used to pull them with a pair of those old cheap Ederes orange handled "nippers" (that actually make better pull offs) The bite was wide enough and the blade narrow enough to get around that really wide stock. If your going to be doing a lot of those you might consider getting a pair just for that. They look like this, wider bite than regular pull offs.
