TOPIC: Vulcan Rm

Vulcan Rm 30 Jul 2008 21:31 #1

Anybody using the vulcan roller motion shoes from edss? I like how they look in the pictures but was wondering if there any good.

I don't know if i would call them a roller-motion, shoe, but they do have a little collateral-relief , from heel -to- heel. More like a polo plate. I have used them for five or six months and like them very well. They have more of a traditional shape, kind of like Billy Crothers concave, a very nice day-to day, shoe IMO.

Thanks Jake, that is what I wanted to know, I think I will try some, do you buy the clipped version or pull your own or do you buy unclipped?

I buy all of my shoes unclipped, and put them where i want them. They are good to draw clips on also.

I have been using quite a few of the kerckhaert triumph steel, but I really would like a little more "roll" at the toe, and for some reason I just dont like the eventers.

I trash-binned the eventers as well, But i have tried the eventer-plus shoes lately, and really like them.

That was my main complaint with them as well. Also nicer to draw clips on.

do the eventer plus fronts have as much roll as the regular eventers?

Jake, besides the heels, what don't you like about the eventers? From comparing them to some of the others, I think they gove a little better break over all around. I have not seen the vulcans, so can't compare. I use some SC rims on thin walled horses for a while then move them into eventers to get more coverage, not much, but some. I did get some Eventer plus', but they seem to wear faster than the regular eventers. I usually grind or work the heels in the eventers, but if there is something better, I would like to take a look at it. Thanks.

There is just not enough material, to grind, or forge on the heels of the eventers, IMO. They are just too penciled for my taste.

RE:Vulcan Rm 31 Jul 2008 03:25 #11

The eventers give a little more, relief, colaterally, than the eventer-plus. If the horse needs a little more, I use the vulcan rim. Depends on the horses job, a jumper, i would probably go with the eventer-plus. A cutter, or rodeo, horse, maybe the vulcan rim.

Jake, I agree about the penciled heels. If I grind them I usually make sure there is enough to grind off the end to round it back up some. Other wise it becomes a sharp pointy weapon. I like the ev plus heels better.

What is the cost comparison between the vulcan and the eventers? Our supply store doesn't carry many of the vulcans, she orders them as guys ask for them, but if enough ask she might start keeping them on hand.

There is really not alot of material, to grind off of a eventer,IMO. The cost of the vulcans is alot cheaper, than eventers, if you are a member of ELPO. I don't know what they go for in supply shops.
