This is an example of how I measure for my shoes adding 2 inches to the width and the center toe length to lateral heal.
Does anyone prefer the perimeter fit or another method? This gives me the AFA C fit for expansion with a plain stamped shoe.

I measure , circumference, Heel to Heel ,Like i want to fit, and take distortion into account, your forging will- dictate ,your measurements, In my humble opinion. I Really don't have it figured-out-- Good Thread, I Would like to know how other people, do it!.

I measure the circumference from heel to heel. Subtract the amount of length I will forge in after the shoes are made. I keep measuring my shoes after I am done to see what I add to the length. A pair of plain stamped shoes I am subtracting 1 1/2" this also accounts for enough length to cover the heels and end just past the buttress. Works very well for me.

I measure from lateral heel to medial toe pillar(diagonally), then from the center of the toe straight back to where I want the shoe to end, add 1 inch and cut steel/aluminum. If I am fullering both branches I add 1/8 inch /branch. If I am fullering from heel to heel I add 7/16 inch +/-.

the best way to over come measuring is make shoes for lots of different
feet
useing different stock knowing what to allow
fullering what to allow
type heels your useing what to allow
bumping up the toe
bumping the outside heel
weather you over forge
under forge the section

loads of things to under stand
one thing you have to make alott of shoes to get it right

measuring for hunter fit seems to catch most master farriers out
and ther making them everyday

After measuring the trimmed and dressed foot I'll measure to where I want the shoe to fit.
For
3/4 flat stock plain-subtract 2inches
7/8 flat subtract -2 1/4
1" subtract-2 1/2
bumped and fullered
I'll add a 1/4 inch to the subtraction number
3/4 concave subtract 1 3/4
7/8 subtract 2
1 subtract 2 1/4

for a straight bar do above math and add 2 1/2
eggbar add 3

drawn down shoes I give it a best guess!

Had to delete some pics to free photobucket

this shoe we made alot as app when we were left in the forge for
a day.

we had to make 16 pair of C/W or more
no fronts because the boss said he could bye fronts

we used to make the wedge in 2 heats and the same for the caulk

if i get time i will make a C/W step bye step for you

its called a C/W but you start the wedge first
