Hi i was wondering when the manufacture speaks of the trailer having a 3500lbs axel. Is part of the 3500 lbs the trailer itself? or are they speaking about an adition 3500 lbs for the content that is on the inside of the trailer.

That generally means what the axle will carry. My trailer has a 3500# axle and the trailer weighed 840# empty. I can put 2660# in my trailer.

Brad, do yourself a favor and spring for a dual axle trailer. You won't be sorry.

The singles bounce around way too much, which is hard on tools.

Do a search, this has been discussed on these boards over the years.

I mad a HUGE mistake trying a single axle. Don't do it. The extra thousand buck or so is well worth it.

So here is my issue. Im 22 years old. and am a full time student learning the trade so i am not wealthy in the field of looking for trailers. is there anyone you can recomend who sells trailers new or used for a decent price besides on this forum? And also ive noticed trailers that the sides flip open on the side. and you just work on the outside. So has anyone had experience with them? North carolina tools sells one but out of my price range, and i could find some close to it for alot cheaper if i wanted.

If a trailer is what you need, what you might consider as a "starter" trailer is an older two horse trailer. They are very sturdy, two axles and you can probably find one in decent shape mchanially about a thousand dollers. Then invest sweat equity. Clean it up, add clear plexiglass over the openings to seal it up and let in light, install home made shoe racks, work bench, forge swing out, and such.
You could probably end up with a really workable rig for just a couple grand.

Brad, I'm still useing a old as dirt 2 horse strait load that I converted many years ago. they are tough as hell and cheap too. Only draw-back is they are heavy. I bartered $300.00 worth of trimming with a client for it. Look around you'll find something that will work out for you. Check craigslist.org.

As mentioned above tandom is the only way to go.
I purchased my 60 year young trailer from a client for 2 hun.

It took a lot of work but was worth it,
I get calls on my cell phone while I am driving down the road,
"Hey look left" they will say
"yea thats me, pull over I want to talk to you about working on my horses"

You don't need to be rich to buy a trailer, just good with your hands and mind.
