I really don't have much trouble shaping them cold, but by the time I get a correct trim on most of my cases the PLR or NB pattern fits with little modification. I use a four pound hammer and a stall jack as I don't have room in my vet truck to carry an anvil and a forge. Now rockering a Redden Wedged Rail is quite a feat with this setup :)

Good Morning Phil! I hope your about to have a fantastic day of shoeing horses!

I couldn't agree with you more. 1/2" hardened aluminum, I'd very much like to see video of someone from edss shapeing one cold. Or at least a pic of the shoe fit to the foot. Sacrificing fit for shoe wear is not a good thing. I think the plr shoe is a good shoe in theory, but as it wears I think the theory will go right out the window. Can't wait for some pics or video.

Thank You Phil, and good luck with your day!
Eric

Good evening Eric. I had an excellent day thank you so much. I hope your day also went well and wish you a relaxing evening. I also would enjoy seeing a video of a PLR or even a NB shoe shaped cold.

Dr. Myres is able to get every PLR and NB shoe to fit just fine after his trim. Maybe the good Dr. could show us a video.

A pleasure talking to you my friend. Have a nice evening and best regards.

The PLR is a therapeutic and performance shoe designed specifically to enhance breakover medial laterally MORE than the natural foot develops on its own.

It kinda looks like the cetre fit, just more aggressive. Anybody who grinds the centre fit more aggressive will achieve about the same thing. Same goes for a regular keg shoe!

The extra breakover is why it is often better than barefoot or just a half round for treating many pathologies such as ringbone.

Ok, so NB is selling a finished shoe so the farrier has less work to do with a grinder.
In fact horses who have alreway be ndiagnosed with these kinds of foot pain have shown consistant improvment clinially with an increased M-L breakover shoe.

I don't believe this to be new news. But thanks to edss for reinventing the wheel again!
Maybe at the end of 8 weeks in very hard use, (or 5 if you heated it) . We have some good barrel and rope horses in them who do wear them out in 5, but they just get shod at 5 instead of 8.

What do you mean wear out?
. There is no way to effect that much breakover change with a thinner shoe.

I might agree with you if the breakover was started at the inside web of the shoe, but since it starts at the inside of the crease you should be able to do it with about any shoe.
AS for all your difficulty shaping them. it makes me wonder how exactly you are fitting them??

I haven't had any problems shapeing them, since I've never used them.
I haven't had that problem.
I find they go on very easily with little shaping, usually a LITTLE turning of the heels, maybe a widening or narowing of the shoe, and maybe a little boxing of the heel surface if I am not adding pads.

makes me wonder how your fitting your shoes!
Y'all seem to make it way to difficult. It ain't rocket science.

We all live in different areas.

Phil my friend! As a matter of fact I had an excellent day! Thank You so much for your concern.

It definately would be nice if some of these indivuals suggesting how well and easy everything is, would show some video or at least pics.

Phil, I'm sure you'd agree that its very easy to do good farriery work at the keyboard. I think farriers and horseowners alike would like to see the type of work thats so easy and shoes that fit after the trim is completed.

Have a great night. Ease up on the chew, I get concerned about you once in a while!

Thank you for your time!

Your welcome and I will try to ease up, you know how difficult that is.

I totally agree it is one thing to forge out words on the keyboard it would be so nice to see forum farriers applying the art of farriery. It would certainly bring this forum up a few notches to see exactly what some on here can do or not do. Posting a video a little over a minute long should be an easy task.

I do have a stall jack, 40 lb hammer and some NB shoes kicking around. If nobody gets around to it, maybe I can make a quick video.

Best regards.

Ya'll are going to really like the revamped site, because posting videos will be so easy. I want to make video an integral part of these discussions, as I agree it will make demonstrating and analyzing much easier.

I'm ready, looking forward to it. :D

Just bought a used Minolta Digital camera that also takes video off E-bay with 12X optical zoom and hooks up to the laptop using a USB cable. It is 4MP but hey the quality is good enough for e-mail and posting on forums and the price was right.

I have a rope horse of my own that has advanced navicular syndrome. I have tried everything with horse, as he is a very high level guy and I have won buckets of money on him. The only thing he has gone sound in for me is the wedged PLR, with IM under a NB pad. Every other way I shod him I could get him sound as long as he went in a straight line (not condusive to roping)
He has went very well ever since and it has to be the ML relief. I realize that this could be done by grinding another shoe, but why would ya when you can buy a better one all ready made? To me time is money, but to each his own. I havn't found them a big deal to shape. Sorry I can't take pics, cause I sure would, but the horse is at home in Florida, and I am stuck in New Jersey, so you'll just have to take my word for it...lol:D

Good evening to you Bruce!

To get a good idea what some of us are talking about. You need to get out of south jersey or East Jersey, I call it south. Travel NW towards Bedminster, there you'll be out of the sand and into the clay. Shoe fit is very important in my area.

Thank You

Sounds fun Bruce! I'll have to figure out how to shape them cold, shoes don't get hooked in my hardy holes! I'll be here all summer!

Thank You Bruce! Great post by the way!

I am the first to admit that bell boots are the word of the day with my horse at least. (not while turned out, but definately while riding). I'm not saying that they are a cure all, just that the worked out very well for me on my horse:D . I have a pretty light week coming up Eric is there a day when I could possibly meet up with you?
