TOPIC: Capwell Nails

Capwell Nails 13 Jun 2008 23:51 #1

I'm kind of curious to know if anyone has noticed any problems with Capwell's, I've had some problems with the 5XL being to soft to hold a shoe for a full cycle and I thought it was my fault for a while. Then in talking with a friend in NC he said that he had a slew of problems after picking up a new case of nails? Anyone else having a problem keeping shoes on when they didn't used to?

I haven't had a problem with the nails Ralph.

It could just be that it is summer.

Nick,

The problem actually started last fall and has been shoing up more and more through winter and spring.

BTW, I thought that Baron had banned people doing s.t.u.p.i.d. things to other people's names.

I am sorry Ron, but I have not noticed any problems. What kind of shoe are using with these nails? Manufacturer and size? Steel or aluminum?

Nick,

I use a few St. Croix Eventers 00-2 and a lot of SX-8 00-2 and all steel. Good nail fits and for years I never had a single problem. I've had to switch up to an SB6 to hold shoes and I am now looking at other venders for alternitives.

I actually mentioed the problem the first time to Margeritte at AAEP in San Antonio 2 years ago in relation to the 5XL. They got better for a year or so and now I'm having a problem agian as are a few others it seems.

Different brands of nails have slightly different shape. Certain nails fit better in some brands of shoes.

I've been using vectors, very soft nail. No problems. What's happening to the nails? Shearing? Heads wearing off?

I use Delta slim 5 for KH SX8 and SX7 0-1 and combo for 2-4. Mustad MX-50 for SSP 0-1, MX-55 for 2-4, MX-60 for 5.

the only nails i see on the market over here are Mustad, Mondial, Madox

i dont think any of these are great all the time

but never have a problem keeping shoes on or shearing
sometimes the tip of the nails on the odd few are faceing

the wrong way and some of the brands i mention are softer than the
other a bit like the rasps inconsistant

I've been trying the Vectors. So far they seem to be holding fairly well.

What has been happening as best we can determine is they are pulling them off. The clenches appear to be straightening. They are not rasped down either. The quality has been really really inconsistent.

Yeah, I know the SB6 is big, but it is holding. So what you gonna do?

I like the head on them. But I hate how they ring. Seems like you have to twist and twist!

LOL! What are you saying, your losing shoes? Welcome to the neighborhood!

Sounds more like environment and foot function than nails. Why would a nail have more or less holding power if it was hard or soft?
So what you gonna do?

Whatever it takes to keep the shoes on! :)
