I am tring to figure out which type of propane forge to buy. I dont know alot about them The proforge is looking real good to me. Dose any one have one of these? How do they compare to the NC forges ? What propane forge would you suggest , I want one that will get hot enough to weld in and will fit a pair of shoes.

I have the Whisper Baby which is made by NC tool and I can weld in it(SureWeld) and fit a pair of shoes in there. It's nice if you've got a limited amount of space.

If your going to spend the money go ahead and invest in a forgemaster.

Pass on the proforge. Its a piece of junk. Cliff Carol basically told me when I said the loner fell apart within the first two months "that will happen" and suggested that I should buy a new liner.Worst forge I could have ever owned. I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a used whisper momma. I would have bought an Hypona forge or Forgemaster instead of wasting my money on this thing that I cure constantly everyday.

(Bronc)

a few things to think about

Do you want it in your rig or work shop or forge?
how much are you willing to pay?

do you need a single or double burner?

whats the bigest section of iron you might
think you be welding

i have a forge master for the forge
and a vally hot box single for the van

i can weld concave in the single
and it has to be one of the best for hot fitting

I use the whisper deluxe. It is a great forge (old, but great). It will do what you need but I am in agreement that if you can spend the money, get a whisper momma or the forgemaster.

Had a Pro-Forge, would not recomend it. I can not remember how many liners I replaced. Been using a Whisper Momma with open end ports in the pickup and it has held up great. Liner will last about three years in this area.

For the shop, a Forgemaster with dual controls.

I personally like the pro forge and have it set up in my van. You can fire weld in it and is great for making shoes with. Of course people have different opinions on every forge because every farrier's business is run differently but I found them to be very reliable.

However we dont get the other american makes in the UK that are mentioned here.

Thanks for the advice,I think I'll scratch proforge off my list. I want something that I can pack with me and also use it at home in the shop,so its got to be portable. I'm gonna check out the whisper mama , I think.
Thanks again

I've had a proforge in my truck for about seven years now. I have replaced the liner one time. I've had no problems with it and it gets a work out on an almost daily basis.

I had a proforge, it took a beating and kept going. I changed the ball valve and put on a needle nose.

For just keg shoes I prefer a single burner Nc or valley. For the shop forgemaster dual valves. Right now I'm carrying a forgemaster single burner in the truck.

my pro-forge works fine for regular keg shoe mods and i can weld up to 3/8 steel but any thicker and the heat is just not there. Otherwise not a bad forge but there are better. My liner has held up pretty well by the way. The door liner is another story though.
