Come on down, the interstate runs in and out of Texas.

If they stop you make sure and tell them about the gustapo revenue deal and how they won't win any court decision since your from out of state and don't have a CDL.

I'll be looking for the supreme court updates. :D

Well I wouldnt handle it that way. I'd just politely reserve my rights, remind them of their oath of office, and make sure to record the whole thing. The battle is made for in the court room, not on the side of the road.

Tom keep in mind that the "Texas laws concerning licensure, insurance, safety, dimensions, etc." are Statutes not Law. While Texas has reciprocity with other states ect, it's power doesnt extend much past information sharing, and possably revoking licenses, not enforcing or acting on another states contractual law. As far as I know away.

What exactly is a Licensed Peace Officer?

A statute is a law enacted by a legislative body.

While Texas has reciprocity with other states ect, it's power doesnt extend much past information sharing, and possably revoking licenses, not enforcing or acting on another states contractual law. As far as I know away.

Contractural law is not at issue. Any vehicle operated on any Texas public road that is not owned by a government entity is subject to Texas laws regardless of which state or other political entity in which the vehicle is licensed. Put another way, out of state trucks running on Texas roads are subject to Texas laws, not the laws of their state of origin.

What exactly is a Licensed Peace Officer?

In Texas, anyone employed as a law enforcement officer who is not in the employ of the federal government must hold a peace officer license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement or be license-eligible. In order to become eligible for licensing, an applicant must be of good moral character, meet certain requirements, complete a Basic Peace Officer Certification course and pass the basic peace officer examination.

The bottom line is when you are in Texas you fall under Texas law. Whether you like it or not. So when in Texas you will be held accountable for your actions, driving habits, licensure, insurance, safety, dimensions, etc.

There are probably laws in your state that Texas doesn't have and if you violate that law in Texas you will not be held accountable for it here. But on the other hand we have laws here that you don't have there and if you violate them you will be held accountable.

Most agencies in Texas run tape on every violator contact and you won't have to remind us of our oath of office, we live it. Peace Officers/law enforcement go places and do things that people like yourself don't or won't go.

So do you take down criminals with a few quick jabs followed by a spinnin back kick - like that guy Walker, Texas Ranger, or do you just grab 'em by the ear with your forging tongs and drag them off to jail? :)

You can't believe all that stuff you see on TV. Texas lawdogs aren't nearly sporting enough to go mano a mano with the bad guys: one false move and they just shoot 'em at close range with 12 loaded with 00 buck that'll sow about two bushels to the acre. Here in Texas, we encourage our rural cops to summarily dispatch suspected miscreants from out of town - especially if it looks like they need killing - it saves us taxpayers untold dollars for such niceties as housing criminals, jury trials, public defenders, and similar stuff - besides, it saves our jail space for our homegrown criminals.

We can be a mite insular.

All kidding aside, Texas rural cops mostly work alone, they cover a helluva lot of territory, and the statistically most dangerous part of a rural cop's job is a routine traffic stop. (The most dangerous part of a city cop's job is a family distrubance call.)

A friend of mine got stopped and was digging under the seat for his wallet when the deputy came to his window. When he looked up, he was looking right square into the muzzle of a 9 mm. He was damn near became a statistic because he doesn't like sitting on his wallet when he drives.

He said the hole in that muzzle looked as big as a 55 gallon barrel. :)

Jeff,

Good on ya. I bet your doing a fine job. I have to admit the police officers in Massachusetts arent typically nice. The state police are recruited from Marines who just got back from combat and tend to treat everyone they encounter as enemy combatants =] Keep in mind I am generalizing and I really shouldnt be. There are a lot of really good folks out here locally in Law Enforcment, and a few with some serious chips on their shoulders.

Every officer Ive encountered in southern\western states has been nothing but hospitable. Most of the times Ive been pulled over in my home state they have been hostile. Ive only been pulled over 2 times here, but have been the passenger in the car on several occasions. Ive delt with police in Georgia, Texas, Colorado, and San Fransisco and I have nothing bad to say.

Jeff how do you find time to fight crime, and shoe horses? =]

Tom; The only probelm I have with the word Peace officer is that peace officers only job is to keep the peace, and protect the rights of the people. Not revinue for the State. Once they begin revinueing they are now acting as an agent for the entity they are revinueing for (like the Registry of motor vehicals), and not acting as a Peace Officer.

As for the the statute not being law, I'd be happy to forward you some information when I get a chance.

This thread is WAY off topic so I wont be adding any more in on this conversation.

Thanks guys,

So as a former Marine should i sell my stonewell, all my shoeing tools and move to massachusetts and be a peace officer? I was in Iraq in 2004 and am pretty bitter about the whole experience so i ought to fit right in with the officers "with a chip on their shoulder". Being from california i'm nowhere near having a boston accent so nevermind.
