If you will fly into San Antonio or Houston on August 11th I'll pick you up and give you a ride to the TPFA clinic in New Caney. Even drop you off at the airport on the evening of the 13th so you can be under horse early the 14th.

You could always stay a few days and we can ride around the hill country and south Texas eating at the finest hole in the wall tejano taquerias and shoein' a few horses.

www.tpfa.org

photos on the site say June clinic but it was the April clinic in Greenville.

Bruce, Why not participate? You are the only draft specialist/ ox shoer I know. You should be right at home. :D

Roy are you baiting me ?

If I had the skill and talent you have at making shoe's into a piece of art then I would compete in a ny second. But alas, :o I am no where in your league.
I am in awe at your forging skills.

I work shoe's in the forge everyday but for functional purposes and it doesn't leave much time to do anything else.

The word specialist has bothered me from the begining, although I have chosen to specialize I always felt it implied more than I was comfortable with. It headed the article in the AFA Journal a while back. It was the Journals choice of words.
Kinda like the word Expert. I am a professional, but know no one who is an actual Expert.

You and Patty and Phil and Jaye and Ron, among the many others here , are the folks who make this board come alive. Your questions and answers are why many of us come on line. Your skills and talent and experience put all of you folks in the fore front as Professionals with Specialized Skills and Specialized knowledge. The fact that you folks share your knowledge with everyone makes you all very Special People.

So as much as I would like to compete, it is not where I excel.

How about you starting a class once a month to teach folks how to make competition shoe's and shoeing ?
You and Geof Goodson could do this. I have seen Geof make a draft shoe. It was awesome to say the least. You both are perfectionists and I could see you both teaching a bunch of classes on making competition shoe's.

Something to think about.

Yes.

Shoes are functional things, what other purpose would there be?

So as much as I would like to compete, it is not where I excel.

Bruce, there's not much at stake here. Just look at it as getting together with your peers to shoe a few big horses. It'll be FUN and we'll all probably all learn something from each other. :) If you don't want to make the shoes grab somebody who does. It's a team event somebody has to strike, run the fire and floor.

Thanks for the kind words but my stepping into the role of teacher is a ways off yet.

Well said.
I will think about it. Must admitt I would like to compete. Not worried about making a fool of myself,(do that once a day) I just would like tobe able to make a presentable shoe in front of others.
