I have decided I should invest in a truck body. I like the aluminum ones, but I am not sure where to start, or who has the best value. Any ideas?

I have my 2nd Stonewell and would not have any thing else as the first one saved my wife, our three kids and my self when she feel asleep and we rolled two full times.

I called brent the next morning and thanked him and the fellas at stone well for a solid product, it was like haveing a roll bar I could not belive it.

He had me in my new in three weeks. I have pics but can not figuar out how to make them smaller to upload.

Any how hope this info helps,it is a investment.

I will second the endorsement for a Stonwell body. Mine is eight years old and on its second truck. One of the very best made pieces of equipment I have ever had the pleasure of owning.

Brent and the gang will build it anyway you want it and will work with you to design exactly what you need.

I put a stainless steel deck in mine and I'm glad I did. I also have the bi-fold side doors and they are more than worth their extra cost. Everything else is custom tailored to the individual's wants, needs, desires and , of course, money :D

I have been looking at the Stonewells and they are definitely my first choice. I'm not sure what features I am looking for, other than a swing out anvil stand. :)

I have the anvil swing out and it is a nice feature but can be a pain if you do not have the ideal parking spot because the face height will be nominal.
That can be a drag on your ability to shape shoes.

I am starting to piece together the options for my shoeing body....arethe split side doors preferable to the full doors? I think the full ones would be nice in bad weather.....any opinions? :)

I have a Purdybilt body. Same design and construction as a Stonewell - the guy used to work for Stonewell, then started building his own bodies and trailers. I would have had to wait about 3 months for a Stonewell. Got my Purdybilt in a week. My buddy got a Stonewell. We have compared them and they are pretty much exact the same construction.

http://www.purdybilt.com

My cost on the Purdybilt was about $500 less than the quote I got from Stonewell.

About the swing up doors and bad weather . . . your stuff is going to get wet because the wind will blow the rain into your rig. If you have the foldup doors, you may be able to pull your rig into the barn and work under cover. With the swing up full doors, you don't have room to open them inside the barn. Since most of the barns I work in don't have a big enough aisleway I went with the full swing up doors. They make nice shade, but do little to keep you dry when the rain is blowing.

Next rig I build will be a trailer that is big enough to use as a walk-in shop. But I'll still keep the Purdybilt . . . it's nice to have a backup rig. :)

I have the split doors on mine and they are nice you have the option to use them full.
No protection from the weather thuogh,I had 14 foot box truck I work from for three years sold it and had my stonewell built, worked from a trailer when waiting for the stonewell. These are all nice rigs but I think the stonewell has the best mobility and most of my clients have indoors so in bad weather I can just pull in.

I am really excited to get my Stonewell. I called to get info on them, and they had a barely-used one that a guy had made, but it didn't fit into his garage. It has all the options I wanted like anvil storage, the split side doors, propane tank mounted on the ceiling, lots of shoe storage and stainless steel overlay on the floor and sides. I got a good deal on it, and I was able to put a few of my own ideas as well. Best of all, I go to have it installed on June 13...I don't have the 2 month wait. Yeah!

Sorry, wished I could have posted this sooner.

My Stonewell is coming 4 years old this month, and if I had to do it all over again........Abso-freeking-lutely! I love it. THANKS BRENT!

There are things I would do differently:
1.Save the $1500 on matching paint...arrrgh every chip and scratch shows! (I am a neat freek about my truck)
2. Utilize under-body storage space, for various compartments
3. Propane tank stored under body (Having a roof mount I think contributes to my "dirty" forge problem, everything gets so sooty from drawing off the bottom of the tank)
4. Go to an 8 foot bed (seems like I could really use that missing foot of space for odd items like coffee makers, light boxes ect)
5. Under deck anvil storage, (Keep missing the deck when lifting anvil back into truck)

As far as split doors, I don't have them, and not sure I miss them. With the full doors I don't have that much trouble getting wet, unless your out shoeing in hurricanes.

Right now I am actually strongly considering putting this truck up for sale so I can build the above mentioned truck. I thought long about a shoeing trailer as well.

That brings up a question: do you have your tools and truck bodies insured separately from your vehicle? I insure with Geico and the bank accepted them as "insurance" but I am not sure if the tools and truck body would be covered in an accident/theft.....what does everyone else do?
